Description
Preserved Original Half Scale Lotus 7. Honda 5. 5 hp Engine.
A very rare, 1 owner, half scale Lotus 7, this wonderful car has been tucked away for over 20 years and has just been through a thorough recommissioning. Treated as a family heirloom it was driven only very occasionally during the summer between 2001 to 2004. Since that time it has resided undisturbed under cover in a dry coach house and is in a wonderful state of preservation and originality.
This summer the car was treated to a fully recommissioning by an expert in small engines and go karts who also has experience restoring classic Lotus cars. The car was given a full service as well as being fitted with a new battery and throttle cable. The carburetor was rebuilt and the drive and idle speed were recalibrated so that the car is in perfect working order.
Built by Sonic Cars in 2001, it is an exemplary piece of engineering, being built around a superleggera space frame construction, similar to Aston Martins, Maseratis, Lancias and Ferraris of the period. Beautifully engineered and with its considered construction this Lotus 7 also features front and rear lights and 4 point safety harnesses, ensuring high levels of safety. The leather covered Mountney steering wheel imbues the car with Lotus’ classical and racing lineage.
Operated with simple accelerator and brake pedals, the two pedals are fully adjustable making the car very easy to drive and suitable for drivers of varying heights.
Benefiting from electric ignition the car starts both easily and immediately with the use of a key. It is powered by a wonderfully sounding and reliable four stroke Honda 160cc engine that powers the car to 25mph from its 5. 5 hp. Though the top speed can be limited. The hydraulically operated disc brake provides the car with robust braking power.
This Lotus 7 is adorned in the famous red, white and gold livery worn by Lotus F1 cars from 1968 to 1971 and is one of the most storied liveries in the history of Formula 1. These were the colours bestowed upon Graham Hill’s Lotus 49 and Jochen Rindt's Lotus 72 in which both the drivers and constructors Formula 1 Championships of 1968 and 197 were won respectively.
A wonderful and rare collectors piece that can also be used and enjoyed whilst being sure to appreciate in value with the coming years. In its remarkable state of preserved originality and having been fully recommissioned, this much treasured 1 owner Lotus Seven is offered for sale to a new custodian.
We will consider serious offers in excess of £7, 950. In period these cars were on sale in Harrods for over £10, 000 which is just under £20, 000 in today's terms.
