Description
1950 Riley 2. 5 RMB
Riley Cars was founded in 1890 and was known for its innovative engineering; by the late 1920s the cars were known for sporty performance and excellent build and finish.
The Riley RM was Britain’s first post-war car that wasn’t just a rehashed 30s design. Originally introduced in 1945 with a 1. 5 litre engine and the RMB was added in 1946; with its 2. 5 litre engine, torsion bar front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering it is surprisingly modern to drive. The longer bonnet of the RMB gives it a more elegant look compared to the 1. 5 and the 2. 5 litre twin-cam engine produced 100 hp from 1948 onwards, which gives my 1950 car good performance; it keeps up with modern traffic and will cruise comfortably at 70 mph on the motorway.
Resplendent in red with red leather upholstery and carpets the body is rust free, although there are some small blemishes to the paintwork, the overall condition is very good. The interior is also good with appropriate patina to the leather and excellent headlining. The wood frame and roof are good and the tyres are all very good, The indicted mileage is just 17, 000, but past MOTs indicate that the speedo was changed in around 2000. All electrical equipment works well and the indictors include rear flashers, dual bulbs in the front sidelamps and flashing bulbs in the semaphore trafficators. There is a stainless steel exhaust and an electric fan and a new voltage regulator have recently been fitted. The oil pump was overhauled in 2023 and oil pressure stays steady at around 50 psi when on the move. The history file includes a record of all owners since 1977 and invoices for work done since 2001. A CD includes pictures of significant work done in 2009. Also included are the original drivers handbook and workshop manual with all supplements published by the Riley RM Club. There are 2 sets of keys.
