Description
Production of the 3 door Cosworth stopped after the 5000 for homologation purposes had been produced. In 1988 came the road going 4- door Sapphire edition. It had similar engine and transmission but was more of a road car than a racer .
Four wheel drive became more or less obligatory for rallying and high speed all weather road driving. In 1990 Ford combined 4x4 , the MT75 gearbox and the Sapphire Cosworth to produce probably the most accomplished Sierra yet. All Sapphire Cosworths were well equipped and later cars could have leather upholstery for £500 extra.
Rouse Sport produced up rated versions of the Cosworth, the 302R (2wd) and the 304R (4wd). These cars were built in limited numbers and featured a unique body kit, larger rear spoiler and heavily bolstered Recaro seats. Power output was raised to 260 bhp and 300 lb torque
