Description

Welcome to the weird and wonderful sale of this Clenet Style Roadster.

A unique car with only 16800 documented miles from new.

Made of all steel, Clenet Coachworks built these cars in the mid 1970s using traditional styling and modern technology (at the time).
The idea came from the little firm of investors in Santa Barbara, California who sold them to wealthy clients including Rod Stewart, Farrah Fawcett & Sylvester Stallone. The company changed hands a few times but buyers were paying anything between $100, 000 to $150, 000 by the 1980s as only limited numbers were made, mostly being 2 seater cars... this one is a 4 seater & was built by a Cornishman named Terry Marshall in the 1980s, a nod back to the original Clenet models, it was built as a 'Royale 66 convertible', again with the influence coming from Royale Cars.

It came to me from my good friend & old boss at JD Classics in Essex / London, who had been offered a collection of exotics, predominantly Jaguars from a deceased mutual friend who had paid £50, 000 for it in 2020 (I have the receipt).

Originally it was painted cream with a brown leather interior & owned by a wedding car company. Since their ownership it was treated to a complete renovation & meticulously painted in a new Merecedes silver hue with contrasting black leather. The hood remained & suits it well, it is in very good condition as is operated by hand very easily.
Gypsy-style leaf etching has been added to the quarter light windows & is a beautiful touch.

Mechanically it's mostly Jaguar based, from the pan to the double six & subsequent automatic transmission. It starts well & will poodle about effortlessly once the choke is off.

The body, as previously mentioned is all steel with only a few grp fibre parts dotted about. Obviously the lake pipes are fake but their detail is amazing & it deserves them, albeit gases exit via twin rear pipes.

The chassis is absolutely solid with no rust, there is a very tiny amount of corrosion at the lower end of the radiator grill, this could easily be corrected & is hardly noticeable.

Interior features some typical modern (1980s) equipment such as electric windows, Pioneer stereo with amp, seatbelts throughout, a decent heater & extememly comfortable seats. These do show signs of wear & mild cracking but along with the quilted carpets they add a very nice traditional Jaguar type aroma.

Out on the open road it's a bit lively, quick & fiesty, it has road dominance & it's virtually impossible to park up without people wanting to take photos or chat & admire it, which is lovely.

Having had the car for around a year now I feel that it is time for someone else to enjoy or indeed profit from.
Whether it be for a wedding / prom car business, a collector or someone who just wants to look like an 80s rock star, it has it all... charm, character, luxury & power.

This car is in very good condition & was worthy of display at Goodwood festival of speed a couple of years ago.

I'm happy to put an MOT on it after a deposit is received, also happy to help with shipping should an international buyer be interested.

Advertised at £39, 995 or near offer. Silly offers will be considered insulting & ignored.
There's no desire to part exchange anything at all, just want to reduce the collection I have cuurently.
It can be viewed at my private residence by no more than a party of 2 people near Maldon in Essex (30 minutes from M25 London).

Please call the number provided or drop a message.
Don't have time for message tennis or messers so please be serious. Car comes with a plethora of history and receipts for work, along with a current V5.
