Description
Here i have my Land rover Discovery 4. 0 ES 7 seater, in traditional Epsom Green with Winchester grey interior.
Only 79000 miles
MOT - August 2025
Bought from H. R Owen Land Rover in London.
0 previous owners - I obtained the car from the original owners family.
Rare, top spec pre-facelift model with the v8 engine and automatic transmission
The very rare rear additional air conditioning unit usually found on the export vehicles.
Brief summary of how i came about the car.
I was looking for something to keep me busyBrief summary of how i came about the car.
I was looking for something to keep me busy of a weekend and browsing Ebay i came across this car. it was local to where i was staying so I went to have a look.
plenty of the usual issues were noted but i was very surprised how original the car was - also an interesting bit of history to its ownership.
No welding had been carried out and it had spent its life in London.
I thought the asking price was fair and paid the full amount.
First thing was to put it through and MOT to which it passed with a few advisories.
I then added to the list and created a full snag list to work through.
Here is a summary - I have noted the rectification in this too.
Intermittent ABS / TCS issue - Diagnosed to the shuttle valve in the ABS modulator - bought genuine upgrade and replaced.
ABS light returned the following week - this was the OSF wheel speed sensor - replaced with ease!
Cruise control not working - Replaced vacuum hose - Now works!
OSF electric window not working - motor seized - replaced and now working!
Head lining sagging - remove, check sunroof drains and fit new head liner.
Bumper damaged (OSF) - Repair. Due to the rarity of Mk1 bumpers i found one that was damaged on the other side, cut the good side off and had my bumper plastic welded using the piece i had removed from the donor.
Rear bumper cracked - This is a job i have not ticked off yet.
Replace front sunroof motor - completed and sunroof works.
During my titivation - the land rover sprang a leak. i noticed this before it was driven so luckily. no recovery required however it require a strip down as it was leaking coolant externally from the timing cover gasket. I decided to combine this repair with a full service and replacement of some other leaky gaskets. the following work was completed - ( I am an engineer by trade and have many years experience with the rover V8 engine, so these are quite straight forward jobs for me)
Drain oil and coolant. remove sump, remove intake manifold and rocker covers.
check internals and replace inlet manifold gasket, end seals, rocker cover gaskets and install sump with new gasket (all OEM parts)
install new auxiliary belt, tensioner and idlers.
Correct Thor spark plugs, new leads, coil packs, oil and air filter.
flush and fill oil and coolant systems.
Drain transmission oils, replace auto trans filter and fill with new oils.
Replace exhaust system.
She is driving lovely! i average around 20 -22 mpg at the moment, if i was keeping it then i would get Mark Adams to Map the ECU for better power and economy.
Back to the snag list ...
Regas air conditioning - done!
Replace heated windscreen - Done! luckily autoglass did this on the insurance, they replaced the top seals and A pillar covers too.
Replace rear number plate and the associated bulbs that were illuminating said number plate - I kept the original dealer plates to go with the car.
NSF door lock not working - Replaced with good second hand unit.
Rear sub crackly - replaced with used item, sound is amazing for a 25 year old car! hats off to Harmon Kardon.
Give a good polish, sorted! I do have it booked in to have the NSR alpine window removed and the roof painted... it has some bubbled that i have treated with converter for now as i have had to wait for a body shop slot back in Devon. They are also wiring brushing and treating the chassis - I have looked and it shows only surface corrosion - yes i was very surprised by this too!
I have done around 5000 miles, since i bought the car, mostly up and down the M5, but also a recent trip to Wales through the mountains. It has been a pleasure to both maintain and drive. It is comfortable, the seats electrically operate and you can move them in pretty much every direction imaginable, they are also heated which in the recent weather has been a god send! the climate control is quiet and gets to temperature quickly. The handling is very surprising, the active cornering enhancement almost defies the laws of physics! I really will regret selling it, but my P38 is back on the road now and i have an even stronger bond with that one, both financially and emotionally!
Apologies for the camera quality, I only had my phone to hand. I will get some more once i get the paint on the roof rectified.
I am happy for viewings and questions. You will be buying an original pre-facelift discovery 2 with all the options in a great colour and low mileage. a sound investment
