Description
Forget everything you know about the BMW 328, the basis for the Bristol. The 1949 Bristol 400 on offer here offers experiences in several respects that no other sports coupe from the era can offer you so quickly.
The car was completely dismantled by the current owner and rebuilt in more than 2000 hours between 2017 and 2020. Great importance was attached to original materials in the interior, which were also purchased from specialists in England. Whether fabrics for the headlining or sun blinds, leather or carpets, only top quality was used. The bodywork was treated with the utmost care at every stage, the paintwork was applied in 12 coats and sanded until the result was immaculately deep and glossy. The paintwork is perfect except for a small spot at the front, see photo. All chrome and wooden parts are in perfect condition.
The technology works perfectly, the 6-cylinder in-line engine has been optimised for performance with 3 Solex twin carburettors and offers something special both in terms of power delivery and sound.
The Bristol on offer has the heating available as a factory accessory and can be very well ventilated through the cranked rear window in conjunction with the air vents in the footwell.
The restoration was documented with many photos and lists and a book on the history was written. The original workshop manual and six other manuals and parts books on the care and maintenance of the Bristol exist, which were purchased from a Bristol connoisseur in Australia.
The Bristol 400 has German papers with H-approval and currently runs with seasonal licence plates. It is a prize winner at the Classic Gala in Schwetzingen. A vehicle of this quality is hard to find and worth every cent. The owner of this rare vehicle is always a welcome guest at exhibitions and concours events.
