Description
1931 Ford Model A Cabriolet 68B. Complete restoration, museum quality. Packed with accessories, upgraded and tuned engine. Runs and drives excellently. The 68B Cabriolet is one of the most desirable of all the Ford Model A's built by Henry. It is an all-weather car, considered the luxury model that offers the advantages of an enclosed car with lifting windows and a convertible roof. A Cabriolet is distinguished from a Roadster or Phaeton by the presence of glass windows that raise and lower. It is less sporty and more luxurious, protecting passengers from the elements while retaining all the advantages of a fully convertible car. Only 11, 801 examples were produced in 1931, making it one of the lowest production models in the Ford Model A series and one of the most luxurious. This beautiful vehicle has undergone a complete restoration, recently completed. It has been restored to look true to the period as a Model A touring car, without straying too far from the original. The owner worked meticulously on this car for years, sparing no time, detail or expense. Particular attention was paid to the aesthetic and mechanical aspects, making it truly usable on a daily basis. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles; however, the original mileage is unknown. The car is offered for sale by a private owner, who reluctantly let it go due to an impending move. It comes with a regular clean Michigan title in the private seller's name. It is fully loaded with accessories, including side spare wheel mounts, mirrors, folding seat, dual taillights, front lights, side running boards, folding luggage rack and new whitewall tyres. The engine has been upgraded and tuned, mechanically adapted and runs and drives excellently. It has literally been used as a day car for a few months. There are many expensive accessories and upgrades. Transport yourself back to 1931 and imagine you are an elegant gentleman with some money to spend, looking for a car to drive all year round. The Ford Cabriolet might cost a little more, but it would be perfect for you. This extra model is definitely one of the most luxurious Model A's Ford has ever made. The beautiful exterior colour scheme takes you back to a time when it was thought that everything in the automotive world was painted black. A video or video call is available on request. Bronson yellow with brown straps and orange paint, paired with vermillion red wheels, is exactly how the original car looked from Henry's assembly line. Like all Model A's, the wings and wings are painted black. The 19-inch spoke wheels are powder-coated and fitted with new white tyres. Two matching spare wheels are stored in the wing wells. A folding rear luggage rack, currently used to hold a large piece of luggage, provides additional space. Indicator lights and blinkers are mounted inside the twin taillights and front lights, maintaining the car's original appearance. Polished chrome components include the radiator grille with a woven stone guard, side steps, folding seat steps, roof beams, headlights, taillights, door handles, hubcaps and bumpers. Also included are antique licence plate holders at both front and rear, as well as a normal licence plate holder at the rear. The convertible roof has wooden arches made by Classic Wood Products, and the canvas by Classique Upholstery, both new. Also included is an all-weather cover made of Coverking Mosom Plus material, custom-made for this car. The yellow Bronson dashboard is adorned with a central instrument panel that houses the original odometer, ammeter, fuel gauge and odometer. The dashboard, windscreen, windows and A-pillars are decorated with beautiful lacquered wood trim. A red stripe follows the contours of the pressed steel dashboard and glove area. A comfortable brown leather vinyl upholstery wraps the driver and passenger in the bench seat. Cowl panels, door panels and tray are upholstered in matching brown leather vinyl with stitched storage pockets on both doors. There is a floor shifter and hand brake, along with the original steering wheel. The interior is complemented by a beige carpet. Additional equipment includes a vacuum squeegee, dual dashboard carburettor adjustment levels for the vacuum carburettor system, plus many of the accessories listed below. The fold-down seat is also upholstered in matching brown leather vinyl and accessed via two rear-mounted chrome footrests. A 201ci inline four-cylinder L-head engine, coupled with a Secrets of Speed Society Vortex dual vacuum manifold and two original Zenith carburettors, provides the engine with plenty of extra power for everyday driving in modern traffic, while maintaining its period-compliant appearance. The engine was recently rebuilt and upgraded with fresh valve seats, plus many new components including oversized stainless steel valves, adjustable valve mats, Snyder's 6:1 high-compression cast iron head, Burt's touring camshaft, and laminated timing gear. Spark is provided by a modern-type point distributor rebuilt by Snyder with all new components, combined with a PerTronix Flame-Thrower coil. A high-quality Brassworks Extreme Touring radiator keeps the engine well cooled, protected by an inline Scott Drake Gano coolant filter. A Powermaster alternator supplies power to the fully converted 12V electrical systems, including a 12V starter motor and all 12V auxiliaries. The engine is connected to the refurbished original three-speed manual transmission with new clutch and components, transmitting power to the powder-coated wheels fitted with new tyres. Hydraulic shock absorbers have been installed under the car for additional driving comfort. Braking is provided by four-wheel drum brakes with original mechanical brakes upgraded with a Deluxe flotation kit from Flathead Ted. The view of the underside of this car shows typical road use conditions, indicating that the car is actually used on a regular basis even in winter in Michigan. Some accessories have been added for safety, drivability and general comfort for regular touring or everyday driving. If unwanted by the new owner, all accessories can be easily removed without leaving traces. These additional accessories include speedometer, cooling water temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, air-fuel ratio gauge, CB radio with removable antenna mounted on the rear of the vehicle, internal USB charging port, Bluetooth speaker, firewall insulation, internally mounted battery disconnect master switch, electric fuses and indicator lights.
