1966 Morris Minor Traveller £8750
From the previous owner to me there is a comprehensive known history from July 1973 when it was purchased by him at 35, 450 miles. In July 1982 at 153, 874* miles, a Factory Recon ‘Gold Seal’ engine, clutch, and Factory Recon gearbox was fitted. In May 1985 at 187, 250 miles, it was laid up for two years in a garage. Deciding that there was still a use for the vehicle the owner funded a major restoration by Minor Services, Witchford, where major wood work repairs/ replacement and refinishing were undertaken, several new body panels fitted, the underside cleaned, rust treated and welded where necessary, undersealed and coated with Waxoyl and finally a full respray in the original colour of “Rose Taupe”. In about 2018 the vehicle was again laid up for another two-year period, but with the “proof” of a hand written diary, it was regularly started every few weeks and generally maintained to keep it roadworthy. With the owner now 90 he decided that after 47 years use he would sell it! In my ownership for the past four years, I have replaced with Genuine Parts all the wheel brake cylinders, the master cylinder, the majority of the steel brake pipes, and all the brake shoes; replaced the radiator with new exchange unit, (and overhauled and cleaned the heater matrix at the same time), replaced the vehicle battery, and regularly serviced the vehicle with fresh engine/ gearbox/ rear axle oil, oil filter, plugs, fitted an under dash charging plug for phone/ Sat Nav, and fitted a discreet electric clock to the r/ h cubby. The interior has been cleaned and the upholstery and door cards recoloured, new door pulls fitted, a new roof lining fitted, and new carpets and underlay fitted. In 2019 all the woodwork was rubbed down and three coats of yacht varnish (NOT polyurethane!!), applied as part of a wood maintenance programme. The mileometer now shows 87933 miles which is second time round the clock!!! (* Odometer is only capable of five digits; mileage is therefore totalised)
I would adjudge that the overall condition of the vehicle to be considered as ‘good’ which means the vehicle has its foibles, is NOT immaculate, but overall is comfortable, viable, and period transport.
