- On the road, the car drives very well indeed. The steering is light and precise, the suspension is firm but comfortable and without knocks/ rattles.

Over the last 12 months I have undertaken a substantial amount of work on the car, sorting all the mechanicals and having the necessary body work completed.

A summary of the work undertaken is given below:

Bodywork
New inner and outer sills, closing panels and lower wing sections replaced professionally. Great care was taken to get the door fit and wing alignment spot on and the doors now close with ease and with minimal effort.
New boot floor.
New door hinges.
Correct door buffers.
A good quality new fibre glass valance supplied (original metal valance for repair available if required)

Engine
Engine is in excellent condition: oil pressure is ~80psi cold, 65-70psi hot. The engine runs smoothly and pulls very well. The previous owner stated that the head had been refurbished by Peter Burgess (Econotune) but I have no documentation to confirm this. However, given how well the engine runs I have no reason to doubt this. No overrun on switch off. The rear scroll does not leak oil like many MGAs. New timing cover gasket. Spin on oil filter.

Ignition system
New voltage regulator, refurbished dynamo, new starter switch, ignition leads and fan belt. Electronic ignition was fitted and I have left this. Single 12V battery with cut-off switch. Car is negative earth

Cooling system
New original radiator (not cheap replacement) sourced and fitted with high efficiency core. Correct fan installed. New hoses. New water pump. Heater, hoses and blower control panel were removed but come with car

Braking system
New master cylinder (with correct raised cover), new rear wheel cylinders and bleed screws and copper pipes and unions as required. New front brake pads (car had been previously converted to front disc brakes). New clutch slave cylinder fitted. Fresh DOT4 fluid.

Suspension.
Re-bushed front suspension (rear wish bone arms), new swivel pin seals, new swivel joint seals/ distance tube/ washers/ bolts etc new wishbone arms, new lower swivel joint o/ s. NOS front shock absorbers. Rear n/ s shock absorber replaced (NOS item) with spare o/ s unit included in sale.

Interior
Dash was removed and recovered in new vinyl. New door cards recovered in new vinyl. Seats are supportive and comfortable and were simply cleaned. Complete new quality carpet set including spare wheel cover and new door seals included in sale. Also, ‘rare as hens teeth’ coupe sill trim present.
New dip switch bracket and switch.
New windscreen washer pump.

Drivetrain
Four new 60 spoke painted wire wheels and new tyres fitted (original 48 spoke wheels and tyres come with the car)
o/ s rear hub seal replaced
Gearbox speedo drive seal repleace

Other
New number plates
Oil and filer change
Gearbox oil renewed
Rear axle oil replaced
New front o/ s sidelightI bought the car in August 2023 as a project requiring restoration. Over the last twelve months I have invested considerable time and money sorting the car and recommissioning it and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

The car is a NA export (California) matching number car. The VIN, body and engine number are all consistent with a 1958 car (MG never recorded body and engine numbers). According to the VIN number, this car was exported to NA - an original Californian licence plate comes with the car and documentation relating to importation to the UK also confirms this.

This is a very solid MGA with all the expensive body repairs completed to a high standard. Door fit and panel gaps are excellent. All of the mechanical components have been attended to: brakes, suspension, cooling, ignition and charging system have been overhauled. The dash and door cards have been recovered with quality vinyl and there is plenty of spare vinyl with the car to complete the retrim. A new complete carpet set is included in the sale. Other items included are the sill finishing strips, the 'rare as hen's teeth' couple sill trim and a new quality fibre glass front valence. Two sets of ignition and door keys are present.

The car has been MOT'd and drives very well with excellent oil pressure.

Where repairs to the car have been made, prep and paint is required or, if the new owner wishes, a glass out, body off respray can be carried out. The car is good enough to warrant this.

V5 in my name.
