TVR 3000M Full £50k 7 year body-off restoration
I purchased this 1977 3000M in April 2017 after owning a similar car in 1987. Whilst this car was a reasonably running vehicle there was clearly some room for improvement, in that the bodywork had been poorly repainted, it had the usual chassis issues, the interior was tired, the wiring was dangerous and the mechanicals required a complete overhaul.
In Sept 2017 the Body-shell was removed from the chassis. All mechanical components were disassembled and the chassis was shot-blasted. The outriggers were replaced and chassis zinc primed and then powder coated. The Suspension was fully rebuilt with new poly bushes, adjustable Gaz shock absorbers, brakes & brake lines, hubs, bearings etc. both gearbox and Salisbury differential cleaned and refurbished.
The body-shell was completely stripped revealing no signs of previous accident damage. 100s of hours spent to obtain perfect shut lines and a beautiful paintwork finish. The door & window frame mountings have been strengthened to ensure longevity. The original Webasto sunroof was deleted and the full body-shell repainted in Porsche Grand Prix White (L907). The underside has been finished in Raptor and painted body colour.
The 3. 0 Litre Ford Essex engine was fully rebuilt, new pistons, valves, ported heads…Fast Road Camshaft. Triple Weber DCNF 40 carbs & Rick Wood Manifold makes this a very lively driving experience.
A new bespoke wiring hardness was installed, along with new internal fuse board, many new or refurbed electrical components replaced. Everything works as it should.
Full Stainless Steel exhaust and manifolds fitted, with customised tailpipes. The original 'T' slot alloys were diamond cut. New Michelin MXV tyres.
The interior has been very expensively and tastefully retimed in a combination of black Nappa leather and black Alcantara trim, includes; seats, headlining, door cards, dashboard, centre console, sun visors, steering wheel…. all finished off with subtle red stitching and black carpets.
All in all this has been an extremely meticulous 7 year restoration to almost concourse standard. Over £50k has been spent to make this rare 3000M (only 654 made) an absolutely stunning looking and driving car.
