Description
For sale is a 1974 Ford Capri Mk2 1600XL automatic in sunset red with a cloth and vinyl black interior. The dash is uncracked, the heater works on both speeds and the car has not got the usual rust problems. It has covered 20, 625 miles from new.
The car was built at the Halewood Ford Plant in November 1974. It was registered on 1-5-1975 by Ford Main Dealer Wilsons in London. The car must have been used as a demo and was purchased by Mr Sharpe on the 22-7-1975 for his wife who drove the car until 1994 when the road tax expired with around 20, 000 miles on the speedo.
* MOT dated 23-4-1991 with 16, 781
* MOT dated 23-4-1982 with 18, 030
* MOT dated 20-4-1993 with 19, 663 miles.
The car was sold to Mr Abramson on 17-5-1994 who wanted a low mileage Capri for his retirement. He kept it in his garage for 29years intending to recommission the car but due to health reasons he did not really start to do it from 2018 until 2021 when serious health issues returned. He replaced the waterpump, coolant hoses, fuel pump, a new old stock carburettor, new fuel hoses, a new exhaust system, ignition parts and the cambelt.
A dealer acquired the car and had it resprayed its original sunset red, refurbished the wheels and fitted new tyres. It was presented for an MOT on 28-3-2024 which it passed with no advisories.
I purchased the Capri this summer and it is the first time it has been taxed since May 1994. The registration document is now classed as an Historic Vehicle.
Since acquiring the car I have had the oil & filter plus the antifreeze changed. The underside has been checked and there are no signs of welding. The original underseal was in good condition and any areas needing attention have been rectified. The front and rear suspension have been sanded and painted gloss black. The chassis sections, door sills, inner wheel arches from inside the car, A pillars, bonnet which is rust free, cross members have had wax injection using Bilt Hamber products.
The engine bay paintwork has been resprayed where needed and all other components have been painted and detailed. The car has been preserved to try and keep its originality and not totally restored like most capris.
I have attended a few car shows and people are amazed with the original interior and general condition of the car.
I am reluctantly selling the car because we have been trying to sell our house for 2years and at last we have a buyer. We are downsizing to a new build which unfortunately does not have a garage. It would be a real pity to park this lovely Capri outside.
Having owned several Capris over the last 50 years I needed to have an automatic this time and this capri is a rare find. There must be someone else who has retired like myself and needs an automatic rather than a manual.
The car drives very well and this week a new high output battery has been fitted. The car comes with the Ford Owners Handbook, Ford Operation and Care Brochure. Mr Abramson has written a letter confirming the history and the work carried out when he owned it.
