Description
Honda CBR600 F-K
It’s a rarity to find one 1st generation CBR600 in this condition let alone two, see my other listing.
If you want to buy a retro/ classic bike with a future, forget the hype of overpriced Seventies models, consider one that’ll outperform them in all areas including a future return. The bike that started the 600 super sports generation, there may have been 600 ‘sports’ bikes before 1987 but none of them were the nimble fast handling bikes that we’ve gotten used to today and it’s thanks to this model that other manufactures were forced to pull their socks up fast.
This superb example is the last of the first generation in arguably the most desirable and certainly the most famous colour scheme, with 21k miles and low ownership from new. These late model 89/ 90 bikes boasted a 10% increase in power (from 85 to 93bhp) thanks to higher compression, revised cam timing and larger carbs, various other improvements such as rebound adjustment added to the rear shock and some styling updates. Even by todays standard they are a useable quick bike and super reliable.
This is the second time I’ve been lucky enough to have this particular bike in stock having previously purchased it from its owner of 30 years! It’s a local bike from new supplied by Shirlaws in Aberdeen who are still in business today.
Very few of these early model bikes have survived in their original form, this one has thankfully evaded being modified or raced like so many of them were, it’s a perfect combination of being showable yet useable with just a hint of patina to confirm its originality. A couple of period performance upgrades bring it aliveand it will still surprise some newer models out on the road.
Dry use and extremely well kept, the condition is exceptional for a 35 year old bike. These steel frame bikes are usually either rough or heavily restored, this one is very much original and superb. See the recent photos with the fairings removed during an extensive service and checkover, wearing its original Honda fairings (not replicas like many now are) Original factory exhaust downpipes that are in near perfect condition which is almost unheard of. It sports a period Kerker silencer which sounds the part without being obnoxious, a K&N panel filter and uprated jetting to bring it all together nicely, It rides and performs very well indeed. The original silencer is included also.
Original owners manual, old and new V5’s, spare keys are all present. The forks have just been rebuilt with new seals and oil, a major service has also just been carried out inc all fluids, filters, spark plugs, carbs balanced and a thorough checkover.
Tyres are Dunlop Arrowmax, have almost no wear and look period correct, braided front brake lines have been fitted which do make a nice improvement.
A rare bike that is becoming increasingly desirable and extremely difficult to find in this condition, mot’d until end June 2025 with no advisories, fully serviced, ready to admire and enjoy as a useable investment. You won’t be disappointed
