Description
1971 Austin Mini (in Primrose Yellow)
Later 998cc SU Carburetted engine (pre-engaged starter and alternator), with a rod change gearbox.
The mini has been styled to look like a 1960s Morris Café racer, with the MK1 lights, grills and bumpers. Being an early MK3 Mini it already had the earlier style interior, earlier floor/ body and the extra drip rail on the roof gutter. I always get asked at shows what year it is, and I think it is one of the better Mk1 recreations I have seen, and I prefer the winding windows over the sliders which puts me off MK1/ 2s!
Recently serviced and gone through less than 300 miles ago (oil change, fresh plugs and leads, drum brakes tuned up, everything greased) it has also just had a new fuel pump and distributer fitted. The mini has a full mechanical rebuild when I bought it 4, 000 miles ago with central oil pickup fitted, and loads of new parts including full suspension, all fuel lines upgraded to ethanol proof ones (I still run it only on E5 super fuel). Car has the 7. 5 gallon larger single tank fitted. The gearbox was also rebuilt at the same time using the best gears/ casing from two different boxes and new syncros were fitted, and a proper conversion kit used on the body for the rod change conversion.
The Mini has been built to be driven and used, it’ll happily cruise at 60mph, and I daily drive it though the summer and I take it to many driving events, having taken it to North Wales from Yorkshire 3 times last year alone. The mini is an ongoing project, the paint is not great in some places (it was already very poorly painted when I got it) and will need other ongoing maintenance going forwards, but the car has a fantastic look and really cool patina and is a great starting point to paint a colour of your choice and continue using it as is, or to throw a big motor in and go racing!
MOT and Road Tax exempt, has 9 months MOT left on it currently, really cheap on insurance being a classic!
Car is based in Mirfield, West Yorkshire
