Description
I am a 1959 Leaf Green Sprite Mk1 or as folk like to call me a Frogeye.
I was born on 25th July 1959 and so about half way through the production run of 48, 987. Yes they ran out of bits.
I have been owned and driven by the same fellow since early 1990s after he found me in a barn looking rather forgotten.
My registration 1661 EL reminds me of my first drive in Bournemouth and I am still with all my metal body and correct paint, albeit new and not old paint.
My original engine 948cc failed and so I have now have a 1275cc mild road MG midget engine and engineered gearbox which is said to be 82HP at flywheel. The build with lots of tweaks and flow by Tom Aire and later tuned by Pete Lander and so I am going to appeal to an engineer who would like to be my proud new owner.
To make up for this enthusiasm I have disc brakes on front wheels and a Frontline wishbone suspension with improved bushing to transmit loads and handling better as I am quite quick these days and fun to drive.
I am also charging with an alternator and have a manual selection cooling fan but all other parts are original and correct for my age.
The mileage recorded is not from new as the speedo and other instruments were refurbished and set from my rebuild but I have to say I have not been very far from home in recent years.
However a claim to fame is a car chase sequence in a German romantic film where my exhaust tone was used to echo down the face of some notable dams as the heroine was escaping the baddies. Nobody has ever seen the film!
My owner has looked after me well and is now hoping I could make another smile and set off for adventures with me.
There is a box of bits including such as front bumper overriders and the brake and suspension items swapped for the upgrades.
Please look at my photos and call my owner if you have any questions.
