Description
I’m selling my rather special Discovery 3. One of 36 press cars used when LR launched the Discovery 3 in Scotland at Ackergill estate in late August 2004. A car that will need no introduction to those in the know and arguably the best press Discovery 3 available.
Driven by the world’s press the 36 cars were used over the 6 week launch after which returning to the factory where most were scrapped! 9 of the cars survived including this one and were sold to Bowler Motorsport who used them as support cars for the Wildcats teams.
This car wasn’t used as a support vehicle, but selected as the personal transport for Drew Bowler’s father, destined to lead a gentle life, which is very apparent from its low mileage and condition today.
It stayed with Drew’s father until 2016, then passed to an enthusiast collector and a new, exciting phase when Jaguar Land Rover flew it to china to be part of the launch for the new Discovery 5! On returning to the U. K. it was the first Land Rover to pass through the new JLR Classic Works Department where it received a full service, (service book is stamped)!
The car passed through 2 more enthusiasts before I purchased, during which time it was lavished with attention and served as family transport, like all good Discos should! It has been featured in magazines and more recently returned as a VIP to the JLR factory again to play centre stage for a staff member retirement, (sun visor is signed and correspondence on file.)
In my ownership, (6k trouble free miles) it has proved relentless and magnificent in its ability to munch miles in supreme comfort, with classic looks and anonymity all at the same time. The D3 really was a land mark car for Land Rover.
So, to sum up, a lovely, rare piece of Land Rover history, presented in super condition suitable for everyday use or as a collector/ investment car.
Meticulous vehicle portfolio includes:
Service history.
Paperwork and V5’s tracing the provenance/ story including letters from JLR, service book stamped by Bowler and JLR Classic Works.
Correspondence from JLR relating to it’s various press duties and various CD’s with photos from the launch.
4 x keys including a launch, (extra) key that was hidden in the exterior air intake of the car in the event that the driver key was mislaid.
Chinese number plates used during the D5 launch.
Magazine with feature about the car.
Various launch publications and gifts.
