KEY FACTS - This BMW 700 Luxus LS is a remarkably rare original genuine UK right hand drive classic two-door saloon, which remains the marque’s only air-cooled, rear-engine saloon car. The production and popularity of this much needed small family car was a major factor in saving BMW from financial ruin in the late 1950’s. It is powered by the rear-mounted, air-cooled 697cc boxer flat-twin, delivering 34bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed fully synchromeshed manual transmission
This 700 Luxus LS was rebuilt in the 1980s using rare genuine BMW parts mainly collected over a 15 year period during the 1980's and professionally resprayed during the early part of the 1990's.
The five-digit odometer fitted at the end of the rebuild shows 4, 900 kilometres which have all been driven by the current owner over the last 5 years.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES - The car is finished in white with a tan vinyl and cloth tartan trimmed cabin and a wooden dashboard inlay. Original 12-inch steel wheels with polished hub cap, fitted with new tyres. Equipment includes frameless front windows and opening front quarter light’s and fully working Radiomobile medium and long-wave radio. As an ‘LS’, it features the later 16-centimetre longer wheelbase. Included in the sale is an information sheet, sales brochures, various correspondence documents, copies of previous road tests and articles on the car, various photographs including as found and pre restoration, a repair manual, and paperwork from the BMW Car Club Historic Section.

Minor age-related blemishes on the paintwork. The car was resprayed in the late-1990s, and the interior has been fully retrimmed since. Other restoration work including a full engine, gear box and running gear rebuild was also carried out during the 1990’s again using all BMW genuine parts.
Due to its age, the vehicle is now exempt from mandatory MOT testing and road tax.
SERVICE HISTORY - The car was last serviced in December 2023 at an indicated 4, 260 kilometres, which included adjusting the brakes and replacing the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and gearboxThe BMW 700 is a lesser known and rarely seen two-door saloon which boasts an unusual rear-mounted and air-cooled boxer engine, and features the marque’s first monocoque construction which needed very little attention before a full respray.
