Description
The Pontiac Firebird is a legendary model from the American automaker Pontiac, known primarily for its aggressive appearance and excellent performance characteristics. It was originally introduced in 1967 and became one of the most prominent representatives of American muscle cars. The Firebird was designed as a response to the popularity of the Chevrolet Camaro, with which it shared some mechanical components, but it also stood out with its distinctive design and powerful engines. In 1972, Firebird production faced various restrictions due to stricter emission standards and the oil crisis, making it a sought-after collector's item. This particular year is especially popular among modification enthusiasts, who often transform it for sprint racing or as a dragster.
This specific 1972 model, with a 455 cubic inch engine, is modified for drag racing. The engine is equipped with tuned stainless steel headers and Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads, which provide higher performance (each valued at 50, 000 CZK). Other modifications include an electric water pump, aluminum pulleys, and an aftermarket radiator to ensure effective cooling under heavy load. The car features armored fuel lines and a racing fuel tank placed in the trunk for better weight distribution. The rear axle and floor crossmembers are reinforced to withstand the forces during launch and acceleration. A special racing transmission with short gears is designed for optimal acceleration, while mechanical valve lifters and rocker arms contribute to maximum engine performance during sprint races. Therefore, this Firebird is not only visually impressive but also technically prepared for the extreme conditions of racing.
