Imported from Puglia in Southern Italy and purchased by me in 2016, this lovely and largely original Fiat 500L was partially restored in Italy (new floor pans and a respray in the the mid 1990's) and features its original 499cc engine and gearbox. The vehicle history shows that it was owned by an elderly gentleman before it was sold to be imported to the UK.
In my ownership I've replaced the following with new items: wheels and tyres, voltage regulator, carburettor, fuel pump, 123 electronic distributor, brake master cylinder, brake items, battery, hoses and hub nuts, rear light units.
The car starts and runs but it is a 53 year old car in unrestored condition, therefore it needs to be treated as a classic.
Due to its age, the paintwork does has some marks and there is a dent on the drivers door and rear bumper which I've left as it provides Italian character. The doors were rust free when I bought the car, however the great British weather has resulted in some blistering at the bottom of both doors, which is easily treated.
The car has never let me down and always draws a smile from passers by, I'm reluctantly selling as I need the garage space.
The car is kept dry in a modern garage and only goes out on dry days. I always wanted an original Fiat 500 and always admired them on our annual Italian holidays. The chance to but this one came by chance from a friend who'd heard that three had been imported to the UK and were available to view close to me in Hampshire. Naturally, I went along and bought it on the spot and have never looked back.
As mentioned previously the car spent its life is sunny Puglia and I do have some documents which show its previous ownership in Southern Italy. Naturally, being from a warmer climate the body is dry and sound, apart from the blistering at the bottoms of the doors, which is not bad for a 53 year old car!
During my ownership, its been a typical Sunday car, going out for drives in the New Forest and to some local classic car events. People are impressed by its originality.
The car would be good to run as it is following a health check or service, or would be a great donor for a full restoration due to its originality which is becoming rare as many of these cars are now fully restored.
