Chevrolet Coupe Fangio Classic Endurance Peking to Paris Rally Car.
The Chevrolet Master series, a mainstay of the lie-up was introduced in 1933 and stayed in production until 1942 when the conflict in Europe changed priorities. Each model year introduced new technical or cosmetic improvements but the most significant change is arguably the 1936 Coupe model which switched to an all steel body construction. This 1939 Master 85 started life as a base model with no rear seats which would allow travelling salesmen to pack the car with as many samples and goods as possible. The “Fangio” moniker is a nod to the great Juan Manuel Fangio who competed in his own Chevrolet with obvious success complete with cut away wheel arches and distinctive high level exhaust . This 1939 Chevrolet Fangio was a commissioned build for the 2019 Peking to Paris Long distance rally where it finished 8th O/ A and it finished again with new owners in 2024 in 13th O/ A. The Fangio Chevy is pretty much the “Go to car” for this type of event as it combines a simple robustness inherent in its basic original design – remember lots of roads in the USA in the ‘30s were still dirt tracks and enough rally development over the last 20 years to combine reliability with a fair turn of speed.
