Description
For sale is my much cherished Norton Commando. Bought unfinished from a Norton enthusiast whose declining health prevented him from completing the project. The bike came with sheaves of invoices for new parts totalling thousands of pounds. It also came with many unused parts and tools for carrying out maintenance ( eg clutch diaphragm compression tool).
When I purchased the bike, I was told that the motor is 920cc, but have not had the head off to measure the bores. It certainly feels different to the 750 Commando. Other sensible modifications include an Alton starter motor, a 14” Norvil disc to the front wheel, a Brembo twin pot calliper to the same, a Buell Lightning brake lever/ master cylinder (12. 7mm bore), a spin-on oil filter, an oil pressure gauge and an anti backflow valve on the oil supply to prevent wet-sumping.
There are too many new parts to list but many are stainless steel including rims and mudguards. The petrol tank is alloy and the frame is powder coated. The carbs, handle bars and headlight shell are also new. The gearbox works perfectly and the clutch is strong. Th bike starts easily on full choke and flooded carbs. When warm the bike runs and rides as it should, with taught handling and a responsive engine which tempts brisk riding. The brakes are so effective that the front wheel can be locked easily.
