The Saab 9-3 Aero HOT story:
The Original Generation Saab 9 -3 Aero was built concurrently with the limited run of Saab Viggens. The Aero was fitted with the same Aero body kit and suspension. The rear spoiler was redesigned as well as the wheels for the new car. The 2 litre twin cam 16 valve B205 R Eco Power Engine was then mated to the Mitsubishi TD04 Turbo Charger producing 205 BHP and 300 nm of torque. In its day and still today, the Saab is a quick car with excellent overtaking ability. The 9 - 3 came in 5 door and 3 door coupe shape. The vehicle for sale is the desirable 3 door coupe version.
The Car :
The car is the attractive but potent 205 bhp Saab 9-3 Aero HOT. (High Output Turbo). In what is one of the best colours, Metallic Gunmetal Grey, black leather heated seats and in the desirable 3 door coupe shape. The car has been remapped by
In 2019 I purchased the car. The former owner had purchased the car as a treat upon his retirement. His favourite number was 7, hence the introduction of a personal Number plate with the three '7's. The original registration was Y285 PCJ. The car at that point was at 53, 000 miles.
Following the purchase of the car in 2019, it was thoroughly cleaned and inspected to reveal any work that may be necessary. The car has been remapped, stage 1, by Noob Tune. The car now has 60, 000 miles.
Mechanical Condition:
Mechanically during our ownership, all new vacuum lines were fitted, the latest and final version of the Saab Breather Crank Case Hose Kit fitted, Bosch Car Battery fitted, Abbott Racing Steering Clamp fitted, Replacement ABS Sensor, replacement ABS rings, replacement of one rear brake calliper, replacement handbrake shoes and cables, cabin filter and air filter replacement. Replacement rear silencer, re using the original Saab tail pipe. The car has also been serviced twice in my 5-year ownership by D Salmon Cars Colchester, the former North Essex Saab Dealer.
Cabin:
Within the cabin the SID was replaced and ACC Panel replaced. The SID requires repair again. The interior black leather sports seats were cleaned and reconditioned. The rare cup holder sitting between the two front seats was sourced. The rear speakers were replaced with Pioneer units. The car was fitted with the factory options of an AS3 Audio upgrade and Heated front seats
Bodywork:
In terms of the body work, the car was thoroughly cleaned, clay bared and waxed. The mobile aerial fin cover was replaced, the electric aerial replaced, new wiper blades fitted, new Michelin Tyres fitted, and the wheels have been refurbished with new wheel nut bolts. Underneath the suspension was cleaned and treated and waxed. The underbody was thoroughly cleaned, treated and waxed. We were advised that the previous owner had fitted a tow bar to tow a small trailer only. The car still requires cosmetic work as a result of parking damage to the bumpers. That aside there is virtually no rust on the car and it has been garaged throughout our ownership. The Hereford Saab dealer stickers and security and alarm stickers have been retained on the car.
Engine Bay:
Visually the engine bay has been thoroughly cleaned and certain parts polished. The engine compartment is now very presentable.
Overall:
The car is in very good condition. It has an MOT until the 6th June 2025. On the 1st of November it was serviced by the former main Saab dealership D Salmon Cars, and was the subject of a detailed health check with no matters raised. For the last 5 MOT inspections, the car has passed with no advisories. The car was manufactured at the Trollhättan plant in Sweden in January 2001. Finished in gunmetal grey metallic paint, the car was fitted with the factory options of an AS3 Audio upgrade and Heated front seats. The car was delivered to Hereford Saab and registered on the 29th March 2001 to a local resident. It was serviced by the main dealer every year for the first five years until 2006. Then at an independent garage in 2009, and then at STP Motorsport nine times from 2010 to 2019. D Salmon Cars have subsequently serviced the car in 2021 and 2024. The car now has four previous owners, and the current mileage is 60, 000 miles.
The car therefore has an excellent service history and has been well maintained and the car presents very well. The MOT history shows consistent advisory free tests and the recent former main dealer health check indicated the car is in very good order. The car still performs exceptionally well, can achieve over 40 mpg on a run, is ULEZ compliant and is very good example of one of the most interesting modern cars Saab produced.
