Description
DB18 Empress coachwork by Hooper., The engine and gearbox are from a later model (Conquest Century).
The car is for restoration.
The car drives, forward and back in all gears, steers and stops. The body is actually in quite sound condition, but the paint which is two-tone red and grey is shabby.
The interior has very good vinyl seats and door cards, although the rest is not so great, and the carpet is poor.
The car was purchased with the intent of importing into India for restoration, and this the owner now finds not possible, and has asked us to find a new home.
The car has a current V5 in my name, and retains its original reg number LGY957, which is known to the DL Owners Club. who will naturally be happy to assist with parts and know-how to support a new owner in work required
The car can be viewed by arrangement, and I'm sure the car can be demonstrated off the public highway. There were 92 4-door cars made by Hooper, and very few roadworthy in the world (less than 10). They were the first with this body design which attracts favourable comment whenever out and about.
Due to their age and construction method the cars are most suitable for restoration in that they are supported by a substantial chassis and solid mechanics, with very little specialist skill needed to restore, The cars have many common parts shared with the more high volume saloons (DB18/ 2 and Consort), whilst the mechanics are the same as the Barker Special Sports.
There are parts that are hard to find, but nothing significant that cant be fabricated adapted or substituted, and there are enthusiasts in the DLOC able and willing to support.
