The Motor magazine reviewed the Daimler SP250 when it was launched in 1960 stating that "this is not so much a Road Test Report on a car as upon an engine", and it is the sound of this Edward Turner masterpiece that defines this car. The review went on to describe it as " a V8 power unit which is quite exceptional in its torque output and in its turbine-like smoothness over an incredibly wide range of speeds." With a top speed of 124mph, it was used by the police trying to apprehend the ton-up bikers driving up the A1.
This SP250 was built in late 1960 and is a B spec car, introduced to give a more rigid chassis. The car was exported to New Zealand from new, returning to the UK in 1997. The car was restored at that time with an extensive engine rebuild, with some records on file. It was also resprayed and retrimmed, and had 72 spoke wire wheels fitted. There is a history file detailing maintenance since that time.
Over the past 12 years, the car has been garaged, venturing out on dry, sunny days. The fibreglass bodywork is in good condition, and the chromework sparkles. It has been regularly maintained by classic car specialists and runs very well. With only 2500 ever made, this is your chance to buy an increasingly rare classic.
