Description
Gilera CX125 Shark Special from the Milan Motor Show plus 1 additional bone stock brandnew NOS CX125 plus rare CX125 spare parts inventory.
Bike No. 1:
Special version of the limited production model CX125 by Gilera from 1991.
The Gilera CX125 was only produced one year, in 1991 with less than a thousand bikes build in total. Sales of these less than 1000 bikes stretched all the way into 1993, non-withstanding the futuristic design and front suspension, probably due to the high price and the performance being equal if not slightly less than that of the more conventional 125 Crono. To say it was too futuristic for its time is probably an understatment.
This futuristic look of the CX125 today, 30 years later is appreciated by many collectors and the very low number of original bikes build in 1991 has made this model also quite valuable compared to other similar bikes of this size and from that period some 30 years back.
But even amongst those nearly 1000 bikes build 3 stand out yet again from the crowd for to grab even more attention at the Milan and Monaco Motor Shows at that time Gilera came up with 3 very special versions and had them painted by artists to differentiate them even more from the regular and often mediocre offerings of the competition.
There was the robot inspired Steel, all fake rivets and metal panels, the obviously movie inspired Topgun, which was not necesarily authorized by the movie studio and then there was the very detailled and attention grabbing Shark, airbrush painted by Daniele Pivaro.
Of these 3 bikes only two today are known still to exist with Topgun being in France, Steel being lost and whereabouts unknown and Shark being in private ownership with us.
The Shark comes with its original german title and a folder containing all german TüV certificates including the most current one which is valid until 2022 and also going back to its very first registration and documenting its original mileage of only 4538km (~2800 miles) run from new over the entire course of the past 33 years.
Additionally there are several copies of older magazine articles about the CX125, the original parts manual as well as the original workshop manual present in the folder.
