Description
1980 BMW R100RS. I acquired the bike in 2022 from the deceased estate of a lovely family who I had dealt with previously. It came with the original fairing fitted. The fairing, plus all removed parts, will go with the bike as part of the sale. Plus some additional spares and a couple of decent manuals (Clymer and Haynes).
The bike had been garaged, unused, for approximately eight years. After acquisition I stripped the bike for powder coating. The frame and rocker covers, plus smaller parts, were coated satin black with the pannier rails receiving a gloss black coating. BMW Motorsport colours were skilfully applied by Dave at Flakey's Custom paint nr Redditch and new tank badges fitted.
Mechanical and engineering work totalling over four thousand was spent with renowned BMW specialist Andrew Sexton. The work included a top-end rebuild with new lead free valves, piston rings, bottom end removal and inspection, gearbox rebuild, rear wheel drive replacement, clutch bearing and set up, forks, brakes and carb rebuild, inspection and set up after initial running.
Andrew supplied the RT bars plus an NOS rear master cylinder, and eighties crash bars. The cables were replaced by Moto-bins. New one piece hydraulic hoses front were fitted. The bike was rewired and a new battery plus a high output starter motor were fitted. The previous owner had already fitted as was an RT seat (has more padding up front). The bike comes with lockable Hein Gericke hard panniers.
The bike runs and rides very well having completed close to six hundred miles since the rebuild. Sadly I have not gelled with the BMW, most of my riding is on much older machines, hence this sale. The bike has cost me well over the six thousand asking price so please do not bother with offers.
High mileage, worn examples are available for three to four thousand but this one is ready for the next one hundred thousand miles without another penny to spend.
The bike is situated nr Rugby. Serious enquiries please.
