Description

Rover P4 60

This example is very very sound, very very original, with no rust and, from what the previous owner told me, has been garaged all it’s life. It’s not a concours car by any means; rather it has the patina of 70 years of being looked after really well and feels authentically aged and of it’s era.

I have the original registration book, where the first owner was none other than “The Right Honourable The Countess Of Sandwich”! She ordered it with a private plate with P4 and 60 embedded in the numbering. I think that I am the 4th owner

The previous owner bought it in 2015 off someone who had had it for about 40 years and who worked for Rover, so he was scrupulous about maintaining it. Get underneath for any inspection and you will see how clean and original it is. I’ve used the jacking points several times to lift the car as they are in near perfect condition.

The freewheel system works perfectly, and is rather fun to use.

The interior has no tears, nor stitching fails (I’ve cleaned and treated the leather), and only the driver’s carpet is looking a little tired. Interior lights are all working.

As you will see from the photos, it has the original tool tray (nothing missing); the original jack, the original tyre pump. And its on lovely Avon cross-ply tyres (loads of tread) which look the part even if they are a bit wayward in their handling.

I’ve had it for about 18 months and I’m only selling because I’m moving next year and there will not be space for this car. Since I’ve had it I’ve the following done:

- fuel tank drain and fuel line clear out. Ignition system setup so that it runs smoothly.
- new exhaust manifold.
- engine flush and oil change, although the previous owner had the sump taken off to clear out sludge and replace gasket.
- brakes overhaul with 2 cylinders replaced at the front, and a rear one rebuilt so that the handbrake works correctly. The new shoes at rear were the high friction type from John Wearing.
- all door rubbers replaced with the quality John Wearing ones.
- repaired the gravity switch for the boot light.
- new battery a few months ago.
- regular topping up of the kingpins which were a bit leaky, but now have high viscosity oil in them, so only weeping.
- some cosmetic minor welding to the rear mud guard areas in front of the running boards. This was done as a precaution as there were no holes nor anything ragged; it was just looking a bit thin and tired, so I wanted it fixed up. Was carried out by a classic car repair garage in Thorney.

The previous owner had the water pump replaced shortly before selling it (he was getting too old to drive it). He also had fog lights fitted, but they are not wired in.

The radio works, although the signal from the aerial isn’t great.

If you want a really authentic and original feeling Rover P4 then this is the one for you.
