Description
These cars need no introduction. If you are looking for something that looks, feels and sounds very special, but still very usable – and isn’t just another run-of-the-mill, uninspiring modern supercar – then this is probably the car for you!
Over the years I’ve been fairly heavily involved in Stratos replicas. I built this car which hit the road in 2019, and since then have thoroughly enjoyed every minute ownership. It’s only for sale as I have a new kit arriving from LB - I have as much fun building as I do driving them! If I didn’t have another kit to build this one would be staying in my garage for the foreseeable – nothing beats a Stratos. Having owned lots of different cars over the years, this one ticks all of the boxes for me – the perfect mix between exotic and usability. If you’ve watched Johnny Smith’s Late Brake Show you’ll see from his video on these cars that they hold their own, even in collections containing much rarer, more valuable exotica.
The car has covered around 13, 000 trouble-free miles since build, we’ve recently done a French tour and countless weekends away around the UK. I built the car to be as ‘usable’ and refined as possible – lots of sound deadening, along with air conditioning and a heated windscreen to boot. It’s a surprisingly comfortable car to travel long distances in!
Basic spec as follows:
• ‘Stradale’ narrow-arch bodywork with 16” wheels, satin black spoilers.
• Alfa Romeo Busso 2. 5 24v V6 engine. This was rebuilt by an Alfa specialist before being fitted to the car, including new gaskets and bearings throughout, along with new clutch, water pump and various other ancillaries replaced to ensure complete reliability.
• Six speed gearbox with perfect ratios for those twisting country lanes, as well as being long-geared in top, making it very usable long-distance too. It pulls like a train right through the rev-range – the Busso really is one of the best V6 engines ever produced and sounds absolutely fantastic!
• Grey alcantara dash and door cards, tan alcantara seats, ListerBell gauges and switches, black carpets, Momo Prototipo wheel, and OEM spec gearknob. Off-white headlining, the same as the originals.
• Lots of optional extras including heated windscreen, air conditioning, uprated radiator, additional electric water pump and much much more. Gaz shock absorber and spring setup. All of the usual LB goodies which include billet alloy uprights and bespoke wishbones, custom steering rack, etc etc – see their website for more details.
• 4-pot brake calipers all round, with Wilwood bias-adjustable pedal box.
• Road legal twin silencer exhaust setup, which sounds fantastic and has a real bark!
• Full fast road geometry setup when the car was first built which included corner weighting - the car handles beautifully.
The car was built with serious attention to detail and has proved completely reliable in its time on the road. The engine and gearbox have been rebuilt to standard spec, including the use of the original factory ECU meaning the car is perfectly docile in day-to-day traffic, but lots of fun when you want it to be! The car keeps itself cool even on the hottest of days, thanks to LB’s high capacity radiator and additional electric water pump which kicks in when the fans come on. Roadholding is simply sublime and the geometry means the car is incredibly predictable to drive on the limit – don’t listen to the armchair opinions of those who talk about them wanting to swap ends all the time – it’s simply not true.
Lots of attention has been paid to all of the minor details, for example the sidelight/ indicator units, Miura inner door handles, colour choice and general aesthetic to make the car look as ‘original’ as possible. It has been highly complimented by owners of original cars and attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes.
I have a huge amount of photos, information and receipts from the original build, containing all the information you’d ever need. This includes the service history of the original engine donor. The car passed its IVA test first time back in 2019, and is correctly registered as a 2019 ListerBell STR on the V5 document. The car is ULEZ compliant!
These cars are not your average 'kit car' - they are beautifully engineered things, with a great deal of thought and detail put into every part of their design. In many respects they would put a lot of supercars to shame. LB currently have a large backlog of customer orders to complete - so don't miss this opportunity to obtain one of these beautifully engineered cars. They rarely appear on the market and are always snapped up quickly. The car is priced to sell, and has been priced in line with recent sale prices and the cost of a new example from LB - that is, if you could get one!
Please contact us or visit the RMC Classics Ltd website for a link to many, many more photos including photos of the build. A fantastic all-round package - a stunning car that has all the visceral drama and yet is still incredibly usable. It really does tick all of the boxes!
