Description
Hi, Not the most obvious time to sell, but why not put it out there?
I picked up this Stunningly Original Audi in early Summer, its a genuine local S Devon car that has spent its entire life in Torbay, which is a frost free area, its had 3 owners that were father then son and then neighbour and each one garaged it and cared for it exceptionally, it then went to nice young chap in Newton Abbot who sold it to me so he could continue renovating his house.
Its driven 1000 miles each year every year, 20 miles a week, I have every MOT and this substantiates this, its not been stood then done a few thousand, its been used every week for 40 years and garaged in a frost free town.
It came to me still wearing pretty much all its original parts, excepting 1 x cambelt and front pads, rear shoes and 1 pair rear wheel bearings.
Which was fine, every thing was still passing MOT`s but some of the rubber components were now dry and unresponsive, front shocks were... plain sad and the Pierburg was doing what Pierburgs do... which isnt much, it didnt drive as good as I felt it could do....
So I brought it indoors on my ramp and set to,
Cambelt, full kit Gates brand
Weber carb conversion (£580, ... yes that whats i said)
Rad off flush, engine flush, new Stat
Front suspension, completely stripped, new KYB Gas shocks, very nice :0), arms removed (original ones still), inner bushes are still tip top but theres a new set (4) comes with, anti roll bar bushes, again good, new ones x4 supplied with, sourced the front subframe bushes, originals still good, new ones supplied with, new engine mounts fitted, new pads, discs skimmed (original VAG discs), New top mounts fitted, new track rod ends supplied, originals still very good.
Rear suspension, new Oil filled shocks, again quality brand, panhard bushes checked , still good, new bushes supplied.
Rear brakes, new cylinders, shoes fine, handbrake cable is still as new.
Engine serviced and then tuned to get the most out of the Weber conversion by timing with a xenon in conjunction with a friends mot station gas analyzer, it now drives really nicely in all conditions/ ranges. As most will know the Weber gives a few more hp but the real difference is the driveability much better than the Pierburg, which is all nicely boxed up 4 you in perfect condition. Its fair to desribe the drive as smooth with positive hints of down right frisky if so desired, gearbox changes are super smooth the old oil being replaced for the newer VAG synth spec.
Theres a comprehensive set of new spares that I have sourced and mentioned + others not yet mentioned. All the original parts removed are boxed and wrapped and come with the car, some still have life left in them and the part numbers help identify this 80 Variant which is on the facelift cusp of 84/ 85, so yes the old parts have value and provenance... isnt that a kind of chicken dish? I digress..
Its registered 8th Jan 2025, thus in its worth a try at Tax Exemption April 2025, I have heard of a few slipping through, make your own enquiries.
Reason for sale is that I have seen something I want much more and it doesnt have an engine (Vintage caravan), I have already a B4 Coupe and its just being greedy having this B2 as well, I am not using it enough.
You will struggle to find fault with it, theres no rust above or below, no scabby brakelines, they are all "as new". Interior is simply mint, I use seat covers and overmats naturally, Theres a couple of "micro" marks on the paint, You have to get on hands and knees to see them, Its 40 years old..
I managed to source the genuine B2 Alloys and they are pretty sharp, tyres are 98% and fresh, no perishing, the original and near perfect steel rims and trims come with, they have superb tyres but are a tad perished due to its former lifestyle..
I am asking what it owes me and will be happy to see it go to someone who recognises what it is and how it needs to be kept,
I have it dry stored most of the time and when outdoors it has a custom car cover that comes with..
Current MOT till 24/ 05/ 25 + a huge amount of paperwork history, sale brochures, the old log books, notes, receipts a coherent accurate history, still has Local Dealer Original front and rear Registration Plates.
All in all a really nice totally genuine low miles, rust free, utterly driveable, gone through Audi 80 which is only going to increase in value, All the V. A. G funk with none of the rot + more comfort and class, in the early days of values rising and as good an example as you will find, gone through and fairly priced, whats not to like?
A few last things to mention, Original Blaupunkt stereo, electric windows... which all work perfectly as does every switch, lever and button, in my opinion it drives not only as good as it did when new but better due to the uprated components.
Any questions and to view please give me a ringA rare car in the early days of being appreciated for what they are and a truly exceptional example, investment quality, a joy to drive and own
