Description

Pontiac GTO, 1969. Genuine, matching numbers car with 400ci, (6. 6litre) 390HP engine and automatic transmission. The GTO is one of the iconic American muscle cars, and while 390HP isn't a lot nowadays, it certainly was then. This one is not a show car but it is totally solid underneath with a tidy and presentable body, and the interior is original, which means that a couple of minor knobs and bits are missing and the stitching has broken on the middle of the driver's seat squab. I'd have had that done, except I didn't want the car left undrivable for months... and over the years, the American sun has cracked the desk top in traditional fashion, but the rest just as it left GM's Baltimore plant in 1969. It shifts, steers and brakes like a 1969 muscle car... which is all part of the essential experience but it's completely usable as is, and you can attend to the minor details without taking it off the road. Or if you must, it would form the perfect basis for a top class resto. Mechanically, it's completely stock apart from a set of tubular suspension links at the rear (complete with poly bushes, the originals are with the car, and I would put them back), and I'm told it has a limited slip differential. It certainly feels as if it has The brakes have been overhauled, there's a new carburettor, and it's undergone a general mechanical once over. Pontiac only made this particular model for two years, so you won't find another one on your local car lot... Drive away in a cloud of tyre smoke and be ready for the next show season. I might entertain a wacky part exchange, or even a less wacky one, but let me know. The car is a jump in and drive model, rather than a show car, and it will readily spin the tyres if that's what you want to do, but more to the point, it steers better than I expected, so the underpinnings are all good and tight. The Rallye wheels and trims are correct for the model, but there's a set of American Racing alloys to go with it if you like a more aggressive stance. There are also a few suspension spares in the boot.
