Description
La Carrera Panamericana 1989 Race Car
Jaguar MK 2 3. 8 MOD
Registration 1051 WK (Original Coventry Registration Assigned)
This is a fast road / race car !Registration 1051 WK (Original Coventry Registration Assigned)
(as per many racing Jaguar E Type Lightweights etc)
This car was ordered from Jaguar in 1962 in LHD, and registered in Coventry. It was delivered to the Doctor in Edinburgh who ordered it before emigrating to the west coast of USA and taking the car with him.
It has raced in La Carrera Panamericana in 1989. See photo of car racing in Mexico. And picture of being displayed at Shelsley Walsh.
The car was imported back to the USA by CMC Bridgnorth many years ago. I bought the car from CMC a few years back, and recommissioned the car with new brakes, fuel tank and lines, belts, tyres, ally radiator, cooling fan, water pump, electronic ignition, carb rebuild and tune at Aldon Automotive on the rolling road, etc. Overdrive works lovely. Loom sections replaced and updated.
The beauty and talking point with everyone is the patina of the car that shows its USA / Mexican / Race heritage.
There is a roll cage and no back seat. Racing lights and reverse light as when it raced in La Carrera 89. With its original race stickers on the car with its race numbers.
The suspension is set up for fast road - but very compliant and not at all hard. Confidence inspiring :)
The hand painted "La Carrera Panamericana '89" running the length of the roof on both sides is original from the race. Speaking to a race historian, in 1989 the race organizers hired 2 sign writers to tour the paddock and hand paint this on all cars !
The car is solid as would be a west coast dry state car. I have waxoyled the car to use in the UK.
The car comes with many spares - x2 XK engines, x1 gearbox, Carbs, manifolds, distributor and loads of other MK2 spares.
This car can be used everyday, occasionally on road or track and I have been assured will gain entry to many UK and European events due to its history and patina. And would be allowed in to La Carrera Panamericana race that runs each year
I am reluctantly selling due to another project...
Stored in a dry humidified garage at home.
Mature and Boy racers encouraged and all those who think they could be Carrera quality drivers. Plenty of La Carrera Panamericana history and videos on the internet and YouTube if you have to research a bit more...
V5 in my name
