Description

Here we have for sale is my 1988 MG Montego 2. 0 EFI finished in white what I'm told to be the only one currently known with the FULL Wood & Pickett Bodykit which consists of the following:
• Front Bumper
• Rear Bumper
• Rear wrap around boot spoiler
• Side skirts
• Grille (rarest part of the bodykit)

I purchased the car in September 2022 from Mathewsons auctioneers up in Thornton-le-dale, Yorkshire with the intent on holding onto her for a fair few years as an appreciating classic. However a change in circumstances now mean a reluctant sale and I'll be sad to see it go.

The car itself has been a pleasure to drive and has wanted for nothing in my ownership. It pulls well in all gears. No nasty knocks, rattles or bangs. With the more aggressive profiling of the bodykit it definitely turns a few heads and I have always received good comments from people that have seen it. Finishing off the interior it has red carpets complete with correct floor mats and red seat belts which really do finish the look. The dash bas no nasty splits or cracks and the period radio is in full working order. It has been polybushed in places and is sat on 1 inch lowering springs from motobuild which doesn't affect the appearance at all, if anything it has vastly improved the stance

During my ownership the only changes I have made are a refurb of the MG TF 16 spoke alloys that it sits on along with a full set of Toyo Proxes TR1s and a pipercross air filter from the original. Also fitted was a brand new water temperature sensor.

The car is quite well known in the Montego scene with the previous owner owning it for fair few year sparing no expense on her when needed. He had all new injectors, manifold and throttle body fitted. He had it garaged in his ownership as I have with my ownership.

Bad Points. The car does have a couple of little niggles all of which have been present during my ownership.
1. As shown in photo the rear wheel arch has broken out a little but has been the same way during my ownership and the previous owners; not getting any bigger.
2. Across the top of the rear screen there is a couple of small surface patches where the plastic strip has cut into the paint (common with these trims), again it hadn't changed in ownership.
3. The pin stripe on one of the back seats has come off. I still have the strip and it has been that way since I have owned it. A good upholsterer would be able to rectify this.
4. The engine bay could do with a slight detail. Again I have never got round to doing this and hasn't affected it being shown at shows

The car isn't a concourse winner by any means, it doesn't have little paint defects here and there but what you see is what you get. It's a good honest usable classic that's only going to appreciate in value over the next few years when it becomes tax exempt. Again I would have loved to keep it but circumstances have changed.

I have tried to show off the car as much as I can in the photos but viewing is highly recommended so you can really see just what this car is about. At the end of the day it's 36 years old and is still on the road!

It has MOT until Apr 2025 but can put a fresh ticket on it if required. It will sail through the MOT no problems at all. During my ownership I have only cleaned it with high brand products mostly ceramic based so the paint is well protected. The car comes with a fair amount of paperwork and some old MOTs as well as promotional material and the old Mathewsons banner that was displayed in the window. Comes with 2 keys and relevant handbooks too.

Any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for looking. The only one known to have the FULL Wood & Pickett Bodykit, makes it very very rare
