Rust Protection

> Lanoguard
The car already stands in great condition, and I want to keep it that way hence spending the time and money to add a layer of protection to the car to help fight off dreaded rusting. The underside of the car has been cleaned using various brushes, not a jetwash. Unwanted pressurised water can work its way into seams in the body, plus the underbody did not require extensive cleaning. Next, I removed all undertrays and arch liners to gain maximum access. With the underside clean and exposed, 2 coats of Lanoguard, with a dry time between, has been applied. Lanoguard is a spray coating which provides protection against moisture, grit and salt. 2 liberal coatings have been sprayed onto the entire underside of the car, not just a quick dusting. The corners of the boot. the brake lines, inside all the suspension arms and so on have all been sprayed. Great care and attention to detail has been given when applying the product, much more than even an application center would provide. I know these cars very well, I know where they rust and the spots which can easily be missed. I allow for a liberal coating until the material drips off the car. I leave for a curing period, and then apply a second layer the next day. Using a fine paintbrush soaked in Lanoguard, I apply a coating to all the rubbers on the car. Lanoguard is a safe, natural product that actually helps with electrical contacts and replenishes rubbers, therefore extending the lifespan of the ball joints etc. With the wheels, undertray and arch liners removed, complete access to the front chassis rails is achieved. The bottom edge, engine side and wheel side have been Lanoguard protected to help preserve their condition. Lanoguard is a clear product, meaning what you see is what you get. It’s impossible to use the product to cover up rust and allows for accurate condition assessments in the future. Small blemishes on the arch lips have been protected using a thicker ACF-50 anti corrosion grease, used on Marine applications. There is slight corrosion on bottom of the passenger wing which has been treated with a liberal coating of the grease to prevent further development.

> Cavity Wax
MX5s rust from the inside-out, so along with the underside protection, I have provided internal protection via Buzzweld cavity wax. Using a borescope, the internal cavities have been inspected, and they did not disappoint. The internal structure of the car is immensely clean. I have many photos and videos from the borescope inspection ready to send over (eBay photo limit reached) The camera confirmed that both the rear sills, and chassis legs are full of protective cavity wax previously injected into the car's structure. Using a cavity wand, the front legs have been further injected through the various access holes via the wheel arch and engine bay, removing the main grommet to achieve great access. Furthermore, the main rear sill grommet has been removed to allow for injection into the rear of the sills, along with the door bush and door sill plate on each side. Before spraying into the sills, the 4 drains on each side were confirmed to be clear using various sized picks and flat head screwdrivers. These are where moisture and water drains out of the sill from, but therefore also the protection being applied. All 8 drains were temporality blocked using bluetac. This alloys for the cavity wax to cure while remaining inside the sills, rather than passing straight through. Once the temp blockages are removed, a smaller 3inch injection nozzle is used to apply protection to this final 2cm of the drains and the surrounding area, as you can tell, I am very meticulous with this job. For application into the sills through the holes underneath the kick plates, and into the rear of the sills through the grommets, 2 long cavity wands are used. One is completely flexible and one is reinforced with wire; used to thread through the holes in the inner sill. This ensures full coverage and protection of the sill architecture, and not just the main metal closest to the entry point of the rear sill end-plate grommet. I can explain this in greater clarity in person, along with the entirety of the rust protection carried out; in short, its a very thorough job using the correct gear! 2 coats of wax have been applied to the car, with a dry time in-between. The wax is a fine consistency so again spreads in the internal joints, corners and seams amazingly well. I have tried many different approaches and spent far too many hours researching products and approaches to providing the best possible internal protection, and this is a approach with I am very proud off. In short, the car is extremely well protected.

The car is sat clean underneath a fitted car cover, ready to be viewed and driven away immediately
