THE APPEAL
Finding a low-mileage classic can be something of a double-edged sword. Yes, there is the excitement that comes with finding something original, but on the flip side, cars are machines and they need to be used. This 1997 Jaguar X300 is perhaps, then, the perfect storm. It’s got less than 64k on the clock, so has been used regularly - if sparingly - over the course of its 27-year life.
No long periods laid up, it’s been kept circulating, it’s been kept in the best of health, and it’s been maintained in a fashion akin to a car with 100k more miles. This car is, make no mistake, as close as you’re going to get to finding a brand new one without the aid of a time machine. It’s remarkable.
Owned by a small number of keen, passionate enthusiasts over the years, this X300 has wanted for nothing. Everything works, everything is as it should be and as such, this has to be one of the best on the market. Miss it and you truly will miss out.
FULL history; every MOT, invoice and main dealer or independent Jaguar dealer service stamp
Two keys, full set of original book packs
Just four previous owners
Maintained to an incredibly high standard
MOT until August 2025 (no advisories)
The car’s history is ample, and detailed. Firstly, you have the original Jaguar book pack with the obligatory handbook, and the manuals. Then there’s the service book, stamped up to 2024, it shows that this X300 was serviced no matter the low miles covered that year. Brilliant.
Accompanying the book pack there is the ring folder in which you will find every MOT the car has had over the years, including the recent advisory-free MOT that runs until August 2025. There are also invoices for services, and for repairs carried out by both the current and previous owners. This car, as we said earlier, has wanted for nothing.
THE INTERIOR
Completely original leather trim
No significant wear to driver’s seat or other leather
Every switch and works as it should
Factory stereo is even still in place
Slide into the cabin and you’re instantly transported back. This Jaguar is original throughout, and as such it serves as a welcoming time machine. You’ll even need to dust off your music cassettes - no CD or DAB here. The leather is all superb. The rear seats, to use the old adage, don’t look like they’ve ever seen a bottom! The carpet too is excellent protected by original Jaguar floor mats.
The dash is bright and clear, all the dials and readouts function as they should, and every button activates its corresponding function. There are no warning lights present, and with the door shut, the cabin is the intimate, comfortable space you would expect from a Jaguar of this vintage.
THE EXTERIOR
Beautiful ice blue metallic
Original alloy wheels
Bright, non-pitted chrome
As you can see from poring over the many pictures, this Jaguar X300 is in excellent visual condition. Look down the flanks of the car, and you’re rewarded with a vista of arrow-
straight panels and uniform gaps throughout. It’s a remarkably clean machine. The chrome is all polished and gleams as keenly as it did thirty-two years ago. The bumpers are excellent, the seals around the windows and the glass itself is all excellent.
The tyres have all been recently replaced and have lots of life left in them.
THE MECHANICS
Just under 64, 000 miles on the clock
Flawless drive - no bumps or rattles
Engine regularly serviced despite low use
You simply won’t find - at least not with any degree of ease - another this good. It starts on the button, it revs cleanly, it holds temp and just runs like a champ. This where that low mileage combined with sparing but regular use comes into play. Everything is supple and flexible, everything works, because everything has been kept working. This XJ300 drives like a new one, it truly
does. The straight-six is powerful, responsive and agile. The transmission is as smooth as silk, the suspension is supple and comfortable and the brakes keep everything in control. It’s glorious.
And what about the electrics? Everything, and I do mean everything, works as it should with the exception of the dashboard digital time clock which was replaced with a beautiful analogue clock by the late owner who was a passionate pursuer of perfection, and it shows.
SUMMARY
This car is a remarkable find, make no mistake. The car is only for sale due to a bereavement.
Though you’re probably already sold on the pictures alone, know that this is a ‘once in a lifetime’ kind of car, and one that will only go on to be more and more sought after should you look after it as it has been for the last three decades.
