Description
For sale here is a 1937 Riley 9 'New' Monaco.
First registered in the Forest Hill area of London on the 12th October 1937, 'EJJ 573' was specified in Black with a Green Leather interior and a three-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. First registered in London, little is known of the early history however the continuation buff log book dating back to 1950 shows that a Mr John Kemp owned the car and there would be a further two owners around the Norfolk area. The previous long term owner purchased the car in 1989 from another gentleman in East Anglia and kept the car in considerably fine fettle and kept an enormous record of such, enjoying its use on many rallies until earlier in 2024. It is understood that the car was subject to a full restoration in the 1980's, but delightfully it retained much originality including the original Green leather seating and door cards which still presents charmingly today.
Today, the car presents as a fine, usable example and the Black bodywork is very solid with small marks of usage from over the years. The engine is a fine starter and we have used the car considerably this year and appears to be in very reliable order. The interior is simply delightful and the original leather has been well cared for, evidently receiving much attention to retain its suppleness. The carpets have been changed in the past and the headlining has evidently been professionally retrimmed.
Now ready for a new owner, 'EJJ 573' is the perfect car for any purchaser who wishes for a very relaxed and relatively luxurious pre-war Riley and would be a fine show car for the 2024 season.
