Description
Here is my Mk2 Golf GTI which I have owned since September 2013 that comes in Bright Blue Metallic.
The car underwent a conversion by myself across November 2013 to June 2014 where it was converted to a G60 which I obtained via purchasing a Corrado G60. The conversion included engine, supercharger, gearbox, gear linkages, hydraulic clutch, pedalbox, front brakes, hubs and driveshafts.
The car is summarised in the following separate topics.
Exterior/ Bodywork:
Bright Blue Metallic Paintwork - The passenger side and rear end has been resprayed in 2022 due to the passenger door being damaged in a car park.
Genuine Metalplast bonnet scoop - This was brought brand new and I still have the packaging for it for proof.
Rear Lights are tint sprayed red with the indicator remaining orange.
Four light front grill with hella fog light stickers.
Reproduction of the original garage rear window sticker.
Exterior door handles have had the large black pad removed that prevents the key marking the paintwork.
Clifford alarm with central locking which includes windows open/ close.
Wind open sunroof.
The drivers door has three dots of rust which have been there throughout my ownership and not progressed further.
Chassis:
G60 Front brake and hub setup - The front brake calipers were refurbished in May 2024 by the Brake Caliper Specialist with new brake pads added.
Golf GTI Rear disc brake setup - This had new pads and discs in 2021.
Rear Beam Refurbished - The rear bushes were replaced with polymers and all brake lines replaced.
Rear camber shims installed at maximum setting to get 8. 5" rear BBS RMs.
Standard Ebay Coilover set - These are around 15 years old but as the car is hardly used, they have remained on the car.
Interior:
Standard GTI Steering wheel
Volkswagen tape player.
Tape cassette holder in the centre console.
One touch open/ close electric windows.
Black headlining that was relined prior to my ownership and is still in fantastic condition.
Blue UV interior with front recaro seats - The drivers has electric adjustment (not wired in) and the passenger seat has one small hole in which was there when I purchased them.
Front door cars were cut and damaged when I purchased the car so it has the rainbow interior front door cars as they are neutral colour pattern.
Sound deadened throughout to quieten the supercharger and exhaust noise.
Heat exchanger replaced.
Original spare wheel and spark wheel kit included.
Interior boot panelling still all in place which are typically missing.
Wheels:
Standard Genuine Volkswagen Sebrings Alloys 6j x 15" with tyres that have significant amount of tread left.
Engine:
1. 8L 8v G60 Engine procured from a 1992 VW Corrado.
Supercharger taken to Jabbasport stage 4 and has a 65mm - The supercharger was rebuilt in 2015 around 1500 miles ago and has regular lubricant applied.
Genuine VW Rallye front intercooler (mirror polished) with genuine VW pipework.
Genuine VW Rallye supercharger U-Bend that is chrome plated.
Chrome plated/ mirror polished oil cooler/ bracket/ filter.
G60 Supercharger mounted bracket mirror polished.
Alternator chrome plated and rebuilt in 2016.
Throttle body mirror polished.
New HT leads, coil pack and rotor arm replaced in 2017.
Upgraded fuel injectors which are the red top 350cc.
Upgraded fuel pressure regulator from a Porsche up to 3. 5 bar.
Lambda sensor from a Mk5 golf GTI with upgraded wiring.
Corrado G60 Gearbox with cable gear linkages.
Corrado G60 pedalbox with hydraulic clutch.
Power steering deleted.
Jabbasport remapped with advanced timing (200 bhp on unleaded and 210 bhp on super-unleaded).
Custom made exhaust system which is a 2. 5" stainless pipe from manifold to backbox and then has the standard 2. 25" GTI backbox to remain the standard exterior.
New battery in 2020.
Things to address/ improve:
There are no speakers in the car and the tape player is not wired in.
There is of course stonechips around the car as its 33 years old and metallic blue so it doesnt hide stonechips.
The passenger door lock central locking is missing a clip so doesnt always engage (a simple fix and should be done before sale).
The Sebrings are in need of a repaint but arent kerbed or buckled - These are hopefully going to be complete before Xmas but will take £200 off the price if not complete.
There is a very small oil drip from the oil filter housing after a drive.
The oil breather on the rocker cover could benefit from an oil catch tank.
The rev gauge intermittently works - This had to be retrofit wired in due to the G60 engine loom. I bought this as I have always loved VWs and the Mk2 GTI has been a firm favourite especially in the BBM big bumper.
Every change I have made to the car has been sympathetic to original OEM Mk2 golfs or to the 90s to make it a vehicle that steps back in time.
The second glances when you drive through a high street always remind you why you own this.
When you drive it the noise of the supercharger is a one off and will be sorely missed when its gone but its time for a change.
I think the combination of the engine, interior and exterior colour is a real head turner and combination that will always be highly desired.
