Description
This is a 1960 Willys M38A1 NEKAF (Nederlandse Kaiser-Fraiser) built in Holland under licence by Kemper and Van Twist of Dordrecht, Netherlands as part of their requirement for military jeeps to replace US WW2 jeeps. The first of what became known as the "Nekaf Jeeps" was delivered on 28 May 1955. The Nekaf Jeep was basically an M38A1 with a few additions needed to comply to the Dutch traffic regulations of the time.
Total M38A1 orders for the Dutch Ministry of Defence was about 7, 500, Kaiser-Frazer 5, 676 to 1958, and approx. 2, 000 Kemper & Van Twist to 1962. This M38A1 (MD17519) MOD registration was KR-56-46 and was sold by the Government at auction on 4 February 1997. Two months later on 24 April it was registered in the UK as WFO 462.
20 years later it was spotted in an equestrian Centre in North Yorkshire, and over a period of twelve months was completely restored to the condition seen today by a specialist military vehicle restorer. It's been owned and diligently maintained for the last five years by a military vehicle collector. Last year it was given a complete winter set of new canvas - roof, sides, and doors manufactured by John & Mary Worthing.
It's in great order and ready to go!From an early age, I've always been interested in all things military and reaching retirement I felt I needed a Willys jeep in my life. Doing the research, and not being mechanical, the recommendation was the M38A1 which was a development of the WW2 Willys MB Jeep powered by the new "Hurricane" engine and Warner T90 transmission. I bought it in July of this year from a classic vehicle dealer, had lots of fun during the summer with the family, but now have to sell for personal reasons.
