Description

FOR SALE
1966 SHELBY FORD MUSTANG GT350 SAAC / SHELBY REGISTERED. 6SFM300
A rare early non matching numbers Shelby Mustang GT350 road / race Mustang with an extensive Historic Series Racing history in the USA.
For the connoisseur, this registered Shelby Mustang would guarantee club / collector interest and entry to classic car events including the Goodwood Revival and Silverstone Festival.

Entered in the official Shelby American Automobile Club ( SAAC ) Shelby Register - 6SFM300.

Due in part to it's racing history, this is not a numbers matching all original GT350, in which case the price would be closer to £150 000!! The fastidious SAAC governing body has, on the basis of evidence, been satisfied of the car's heritage to place it on the official Shelby register.

THE CAROLL SHELBY BACKGROUND
Racing driver Caroll Shelby used parts from his successful AC Shelby Cobra racing car to build a highly modified performance sports car based on the Ford Mustang Fastback, purpose built and homologated for SCCA road racing competition.

The standard Mustang Fastback would be ordered from the Ford Motor Company, converted by Caroll Shelby’s company and delivered to the period dealerships, as either a road or racing car.

The GT350’s all conquering image and electrifying period performance make this first generation Shelby Mustang a rare and highly collectable part of classic motoring history.

THE 6SFM300 BACKGROUND
This Ford Mustang GT350 was shipped from Shelby USA to Ford factory dealer Gilboy Ford Inc in Allentown, Pensilvania on 17 November 1965 together with Shelby GT350 6S299.

Original colour white. The car’s history is well documented in the Shelby Register.

The dealership was invoiced USD 3547. 00 plus USD 30. 00 for blue LeMans stripes plus USD 40. 00 for rear seats plus USD 89. 60 freight costs, for a total of USD 3706. 60, making the Shelby GT350 significantly more expensive than a standard 1965/ 66 Mustang Fastback.

Purchased in the nineties by historic racing driver Mr William Dickson Rathbone of Marietta, Georgia, the car was race prepared for sanctioned HSR, SCCA and ROLEX Endurance Series events by Gary Jones Motorsports in Georgia.

Gary Jones Motorsports was one of the leading Mustang restoration and race shops in the USA, whose race cars had a reputation of being meticulously prepared and extremely competitive.

The car, originally raced in its factory colour of white / blue Shelby stripes and with a race number of eleven, was subsequently repainted red and then red / gold striping.

6SFM300 competed in HSR, SCCA and Rolex Endurance races for over a decade and a haIf at tracks including Road Atlanta, Daytona, Sebring International Raceways and Watkins Glen.

The race perspex front / rear screens accompanying the car have the original race series annual USA race series registration / entrant stickers confirming its racing heritage.

Refer photos of the Shelby Register entry and historical photos of the number 11 car on the track in original white / blue stripes and the subsequent red / gold colour scheme. Included are the perspex front and rear screens with fifteen original annual USA HSR (Historic Racing Series) competitor stickers.
