Rocketeer converted mk2. 5 mx-5 (2004)
This is a 2004 mx-5 Euphonic with a Rocketeer conversion putting a 3. 0l V6 engine from a Jaguar S-Type. The car has just under 90, 000 miles but the engine itself is a brand new, old stock engine bought directly from Jaguar with less than 1, 000 miles of running time.
It’s an excellent combination of the mx-5’s handling and driving characteristics with the soul and power of a beautiful V6 putting out around 280hp with such an effortless and torquey feel. It’ll happily pickup in 5th gear from 30mph to fast as you feel you want to push it, making it such an easy and accessible car to drive. But it also loves to sing through the gears revving up to around 7, 000rpm. It’s a truly unique car, unlike anything else on the road.

- new subframe for engine mounting
- Custom, carbon fibre intake plenums
- Custom exhaust headers
- Sports catalytic converter
- Custom engine wiring loom
- New ECU

The engine is connected to the original 5-speed gearbox where I have also included a Bofi racing clutch for mx-5 to give a good bite without an overly hard clutch pedal. It’s a great performing clutch.
There are several other modifications on the driveline and chassis including MeisterR coilover suspension, whiteline front and rear rollbars, new EBC brake discs and EBC yellow stuff brake pads, rust prevention in chassis components done in 2019, new set of PAS pipes, new track rod ends and lower/ upper ball joints, new dual exit cobalt exhaust and an upgraded coolant radiator.
Some known and minor issues
- starting can be intermittent (currently unknown cause but expected cause of reduced battery charge).
- Some minor rust appearing on rear arches.
- Broken spring on rear most cup holder
- Dents and scratches on passenger side front and rear wings
- Some minor damage on the corner and edges of the hard top
- Paint has faded (full extent is obvious on the boot lid)
The car has been kept in a garage since I purchased it in 2017. A lot of money and time has been invested in making it the great car it is today. Admittedly there is more I would’ve like to have done to the car with a full paint job being the main one. However due to personal circumstances, it is no longer financially viable for me to keep it. It would be better off going to someone who can use it every day. This car has become my dream car and I hope that someone else can now take it to the next level.
