Ford Escort Mk2 1600 Sport, 2 door.
One of the last, being a 1981 model. Registered as Historic Vehicle in my name. Garaged.
Personally imported from South Africa, hence very solid bodywork in excellent condition.
EXTERIOR
Extremely smart in its silver with black detailing and correct quarter bumpers.
Underside, door bottoms, reinforced strut tops and all 4 arches in excellent order.
Some mild lacquer micro blistering on roof and bootlid, but an extremely presentable Sport which gets lots of favourable comments.
INTERIOR
Complete and in good original condition with some bagginess on the original brown Sport cloth. Passenger seat needs minor repair to vinyl at rear. Carpet is good. Good dash top.
All controls and gauges operate including heater fan.
Correct sports steering wheel. Ford jack and wheel brace.
Good condition, correct door cards.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Kent 1600 with a twin venturi carburettor, standard airbox. 4 branch manifold. Runs nice and quiet. Video available upon request.
New oil and filter, battery, diff oil, air filter and fuel pump.
5 speed gearbox fitted.
Would benefit from new points and plugs, but runs well and starts easily once warm. Temp gauge sits just below halfway point.
There is a slight clutch slip up steep hills. Please note I have bought a new clutch from Burton which is included in the sale. Perfectly usable as is though.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Correct factory deep dish 13inch Sport road wheels.
Brakes are good, including the handbrake.
This is a 43 year old classic, so please don’t expect a fault-free car.
Here are the points I would address if I were keeping the car:
Fitment of supplied clutch
Get carburation set up as it is set for the South African climate
Auto choke is not working, so starting on a cold day is laborious. Manual choke conversion easy to sort.
Spotlights are original but have rust on the reflectors – replace or refurbish
Door rubbers have perished – these are readily available
Driver’s seat runner needs adjustment as sometimes doesn’t lock in place.
Stereo not connected
Non original spare wheel
