Description

1981 Land Rover Series 3 2. 25L Diesel in Marine Blue with Sand coloured canvas roof, hardtop available too.

This vehicle has been in my ownership for the last 8 years and has had an extensive long term restoration. There is no rust on this vehicle thanks to a galvanised chassis and professionally repaired bulkhead that is solid inside and out. I have a service history of the vehicle which dates back over the last 20 years of the vehicle's life as well as documenting all the work I have done over the last 8 years. The vehicle has been dry stored inside a temperature controlled warehouse the whole time it has been in my ownership.

Engine:
The engine has been subject to a full rebuild from the bare block featuring new bearings all round, a new camshaft, new bores and pistons rebored to 040 over, new valve seats, seals and guides as well as new rocker shaft and rockers. It has a new flywheel complete with ring gear which has been balanced with the crankshaft and new injectors as well as a professionally refurbished fuel injection pump. The oil pump has been overhauled and the cylinder head and block have been resurfaced with new seals and gaskets all round. The oil filter has been replaced with a cartridge filter setup that allows it to use modern oil filters. This engine is still in its break-in period and finished in the period correct duck-egg blue paint.

Gearbox:
The gearbox has had a comprehensive rebuild to a suffix 'D' specification with new 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears along with new selectors and bearings. The gearbox has new gaskets and seals and a fairy overdrive.

Axles:
The front axle has had a new swivel ball on the offside as well as a new propshaft, both front brakes have been overhauled as well as new wheel bearings and seals all round in addition to free-wheeling hubs (not shown in some of the pictures as they were taken off to be rebuilt and have been subsequently refitted). The rear axle has also had new wheel bearings. Both axles benefit from new parabolic leaf springs with the correct extended travels shock absorbers to account for the slight increase in ride height.

The vehicle also benefits from other new parts such as a new radiator, new thermostat, new fuel tank, new headlights and sidelights, a rear fog light and a new Exmoor Trim canvas roof and deluxe front seats. This vehicle has had a lot of time put into it to make sure it stands the test of time for decades to come.

The engine runs smoothly and clean with no smoke and starts off the key. The gearbox is tight and doesn't jump out of any gears, even under load.

This vehicle is ready for a new owner to enjoy.
