Description

1947 FIAT 1100 SPORT STANGUELLINI 1000 MIGLIA MARK FIAT MODEL 1100 SPORT STANGUELLINI YEAR 1947 CHASSIS 224789 ENGINE 108C 302528 CYLINDER 1089 cc ASI- FIVA CERTIFICATIONS IN PROGRESS RED INTERIOR RED EXTERIOR NOTES The FIAT HISTORIC CENTRE and FIAT CLASSICS certify that chassis 224789 was produced on 23 May 1947 and delivered without bodywork. This confirms that it was intended to be a racing car.

The chronological extracts from the civil motor vehicle registration office indicate that the car was first registered in 1947. The first city of registration seems to have been Trapani. In fact, as can be seen from the photographs on the TARGAPEDIA site in 1953, this seems to be the registration with which it took part in the Targa Florio with number 68 driven by Giacomo Frazzitta.

On 31 October 1954 it was re-registered in Palermo with the registration plate that is still active today and registered to Giacomo Frazzitta who lives there. The chronological extract shows that due to flooding of the archive the volume relating to this registration was damaged and therefore it is not possible to trace back the transcriptions that followed until the archive was digitised.

On 20 October 1988, ownership was transferred to Lo Gelfo Salvatore, a resident of Palermo. The car was later purchased in a preserved/ restored condition by Spataro Daniele, also of Palermo. In May 2004, Spataro corresponded with Maurizio Tabucchi, ASI's CTN Auto in which they discuss the car's condition and Tabucchi provides suggestions on how to carry out the restoration.

These letters are available with the car's documentation. Spataro did not start the work and after about ten years, on 9 October 2015, he sold it to the current owner who began a long and demanding restoration that was completed in 2023.

The restoration is documented by a large number of photographs that illustrate the car from its original state during all the stages of work on the chassis, body, paintwork, mechanics, electrical system and upholstery. The condition of the aluminium of the original body, due to the damage suffered in competitions and the deterioration of the metal over more than 70 years, could not be saved.

Experts have worked on the car faithfully reproducing the shapes and measurements using the original panels and tubular substructure as a guide for the creation of the new bodywork. The engine numbers do not correspond to the original numbers on the 1954 registration certificate because cars that have been involved in competitions for years are subject to replacement due to breakage. The engine has been completely restored to new condition with grinding and replacement of all components as indicated in the bill of works. An original Stanguellini gearbox is installed on the car.

All the bills and accounts of work carried out issued by the specialists involved in the work during the years of restoration are available. Given the recent completion of the restoration, paperwork is currently underway to obtain the certificates of HISTORICAL RELEVANCE, IDENTITY (gold plate) and FIVA.

The documentation found so far in the photographic archives shows the car engaged in various competitions in the 1950s: - 1953 TARGA FLORIO no. 68 Frazzitta (with Trapani registration) - 1955 GIRO DI SICILIA no. 240 Baseggio - 1956 TARGA FLORIO no. 7 Frazzitta and Masacci Further research and investigation is underway to verify the drivers, numbers and races in which the car participated.

The book 'STANGUELLINI' written by Orsini and Zagari, published by Nada, illustrates two photos of this car, declaring that it was originally owned by Nando Righetti and later by Vincenzo Auricchio and Aurelio Lorenzetti, but unless further verification is underway, this information may not be correct as the car is known to have always been in Sicily.

The car has retained its registration with Palermo plate of 1954, has never been radiated and the registration certificate bears the original description of FIAT 1100 SPORT STANGUELLINI. It is regularly serviced until August 2026 and is ready for use.
