Unique - Honda Dream C71 1959 - restoration project for sale!
Offered for sale due to too many projects; a very early, very rare 1959 Honda Dream C71 Dry Sump 250cc!!
Less than 250 copies of these bikes came to Northern Europe in that very first year. This is one of them. A unique opportunity to own a piece of motorcycle history! This motorcycle is one of the very first motorcycles produced by the largest motorcycle brand on earth..
In this first year that Japan was allowed to export abroad, 1959, Honda began shipping the very first motorcycles to Europe and North America. The Netherlands in particular was fortunate enough to receive many of these machines because the Netherlands was seen by Honda as a perfect test country. These so-called dry-sump models were the 250cc C71 models and the 305cc model C76. These were delivered in the Netherlands in 1959 and early 1960. Soon after, Honda released a completely redesigned engine block which the engine oil in the crankcase, the so-called Wet Sump models (C72-77). In Europe, just like in Japan, this model was equipped with the characteristic plate steel steering. In America a CA71 was available with chrome tube handlebars.
This very rare motorcycle is largely complete and forms a solid base for a full restoration. I bought this C71 about 15 years ago with the intention of restoring it. Due to too many projects, I want to give someone else the opportunity to own such a special machine and put it back on the road. The engine turns free and has good compression. The motorcycle does not have a valid registration. It is a challenging restoration, but it can certainly be turned into a beautiful motorcycle that is a unique and important milestone in motorcycle history. This was start of the world domination that Honda and the other Japanese Brands would impose on the motorcycle industry.
I am prepared to support the buyer with knowledge, skills and possibly parts to complete the restoration where possible.

Uniek - Honda Dream C71 1959 - restauratieproject te koop!
Wegens te veel projecten te koop aangeboden; een hele vroege, zeer schaarse Honda Dream C71 Dry Sump 250cc uit het jaar 1959!!
Minder dan 250 exemplaren van dit type zijn in dat allereerste jaar naar Noord Europa gekomen. Dit is daar één van. Een unieke kans om een stukje motorhistorie te bezitten! Deze motor is één van de allereerste geproduceerde motorfietsen die het grootste motormerk op aarde ooit op grote schaal begon te produceren.
In dit eerste jaar dat Japan mocht exporteren naar het buitenland, 1959 begon Honda de allereerste motorfietsen te everschepen naar Europa en Noord-Amerika. Vooral Nederland was zo fortuinlijk om veel van deze machines te ontvangen omdat Nederland door Honda gezien werd als een perfect test-land. Het ging hierbij om deze zogenaamde dry-sump modellen, te weten de 250cc modellen C71 en de 305cc model C76. Deze werden in 1959 en begin 1960 in Nederland geleverd. Snel daarna kwam Honda uit met een geheel herontworpen motorblok waarbij de motorolie in het carter zat en er geen aparte olietank meer aanwezig was, de zogenaamde Wet Sump modellen (C72-77). In Europa werd net als in Japan dit model uitgevoerd met het kenmerkende plaatstalen stuur. In Amerika was er een CA71 leverbaar met een chromen buis stuur.
Deze schaarse motorfiets is grotendeels compleet en vormt een solide basis voor een volledige restauratie. Deze C71 is zo’n 15 jaar geleden door mij gekocht met het idee deze ooit te restaureren. Vanwege teveel projecten wil ik iemand anders de kans geven om zo’n bijzondere machine te bezitten. Het motorblok is los en heeft goede compressie. Motor is heeft geen geldig kenteken. Deze fiets verdient het om weer op de weg gebracht te worden! Het is een uitdagende restauratie maar er is zeker weer een fraaie motorfiets van te maken die ultra schaars is en een belangrijke mijlpaal is in de motorfiets geschiedenis. Dit was de eerste hint van de tsunami die Honda en de andere Japanse Merken zou toebrengen uit
In overleg ben ik bereid om de koper te ondersteunen met kennis, kunde en eventueel onderdelen om de restauratie te kunnen voltooien waar mogelijk.
Serieuze geïnteresseerden mogen contact opnemen voor vragen om de motor te bekijken in Rotterdam (NL) en/ of om een bod te doen. Ook bestaat de mogelijkheid om na sluiten koop de motor af te halen nabij de Duitse grens in de buurt van Enschede.
