This mk2 Golf has been great fun to own and work on. It is beautifully original with plenty of character and is very fun to drive.
PLUS POINTS:
The engine starts and drives brilliantly with no appreciable oil consumption at all. It is both sprightly and economical.
Generally very solid underneath (the car has been welded in the past)
The ‘marineblau’ paintwork has a lovely shine to it.
Very smooth gearbox
The brakes operate well and pull up straight
Original Panasonic radio cassette in working order (though speakers/ connections to the speakers will require attention as connection is intermittent)
Original service book and owner’s manual and various other service history paperwork
Two sets of keys
New windscreen fitted in September (replaced due to stone chip having then cracked)
MOT until late August 2025
The car has benefited from the following work having been undertaken recently:
Recently serviced with fresh oil, oil filter, air filter, distributor cap, spark plugs and rotor arm
New vacuum hoses for the carburettor which has also been cleaned through (original Pierburg 2E3)
N/ S front wheel bearing replaced
Both rear wheel bearings replaced
N/ S front track rod replaced
Both tie rods replaced
O/ S front lower suspension arm replaced
Tracking set
Exhaust rubbers on middle and rear replaced
O/ S door handle and lock
Wheel centre cap and wheel nut caps
3 new wiper blades
New camshaft cover gasket included with sale (not fitted)
POINTS TO NOTE:
The interior is tired and damaged in places - see photos
Rear screen screen wash does not function
Front screen wash is temperamental - it’s probably just a dirty connection and if time I will try and sort it properly
Some dents, scratches, marks and rust spots on bodywork - see photos
When the car was acquired, it would barely run. Much time has been spent on improving the car’s running by servicing the ignition system and sorting vacuum leaks to the carburettor and it now runs well and reliably - several hundred miles have been covered without issue. However, the idle is a little rough.
The car will be sold as seen and so viewing is strongly encouraged. Mileage approximate as in use. I bought this car because its originality caught my eye. It is refreshing to see an example of a mk2 Golf that hasn't been messed around with and it is remarkably solid underneath. I've spent much time working on the car to get it into running order and would now like to see someone else use and enjoy it as much as I have.
