Description
Selling my beloved 1989 Golf GTI MK2, after 3 years of ownership. I bought my Golf in October 2021, but sadly haven’t used it as much as I would’ve liked due to regular work travel. I now need something more practical for longer journeys, so it’s the right time to pass it on to someone else to get the joy out of it!
A highly original and unmodified 3 door ‘big bumper’ example, with original dealer stickers and plates, original BBS wheels, and no ‘aftermarket’ modifications - except the car has been lowered slightly (which was the case when I purchased it). Non-PAS, non-central locking, so truly a blast from the past! I bought it from Pinnacle Cars in Sheffield for £9, 500, and know that it had previously been owned by an enthusiast dealer in the North East of England (where I’m based).
The car is such a head turner - I’ve received an endless amount of comments, nods, waves, beeps since owning it! Personally I think this is the best colour and spec (3 door, big bumper, BBS wheels) and searched hard to find one like this.
Given how quickly I need to sell the car, I’m willing to consider offers - but need to be mindful of my initial purchase price and amount spent on work since then. During my ownership I’ve spent approximately £3, 700 on restoration work including new wings, paint, door re-alignment, window mechanisms, upgrading the locks and ignition (so they all work off the same key), new aerial and other general maintenance work - I bought the car with limited service history and have since had it serviced and kept it up to date with MOT, including any work required to pass each year. Current MOT expires on 7th December 2024.
The car is overall in good condition - a very usable classic that doesn’t require any major attention. It’s not a ‘show pony’, so not perfect condition, but all as expected for its age. It’s worth calling out that the rear headliner has started to sag and there is a small rust spot on the upper rear quarter underneath one of the rubber strips. These were the next things on ‘my list’ to fix but never got round to it.
