2008 Bentley Continental GT W12 Speed
The Bentley Continental GT first appeared in 2003, equipped with the company’s now legendary six litre W12 engine which, even in its earliest guise, delivered over 550bhp. By 2008 when this car was built, Bentley had further refined the design, with changes such as reduced weight, improved steering feel and increased cooling efficiency. In addition to benefitting from these upgrades, this car is also to Speed Model specification, meaning its version of the W12 delivers a full 600bhp and, perhaps the true measure of a Bentley, a formidable 553 lb/ ft of torque.
The car comes from the collection of a marque expert and enthusiast, and presents excellently in a restrained combination of Pearl Black over a black diamond stitched Mulliner leather interior, also featuring an engine turned dashboard, centre console etc. The car retains its correct Speed Model specific 20” alloy wheels and is also specified with the desirable soft door closing feature.
Unfortunately the Bentley did suffer some damage earlier in its life, but this has been meticulously rectified by its current owner, a respected motorsport engineer and BRDC member with many year’s experience in British Touring Cars and International Endurance Racing, including several entries at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Cars of this nature have recently acquired a reputation for being expensive to maintain, and particularly to insure. However, the owner reports that, having owned and worked on Rolls Royces and Bentleys since the late 1960s, the Continental GT is very similar to other high end cars in this regard, it being perfectly possible to keep costs to a manageable level through the use of carefully selected specialists. Only the fact he is no longer using it enough has prompted his decision to sell. Recent work on the car includes a full service with new brakes, tyres and batteries.
