Description

This Herald 13/ 60 Convertible is a rolling restoration project that I am forced to abandon due to health issues. The chassis is in excellent shape with no corrosion issues I can see. Floors all round are solid as is the spare wheel well and bulkhead. The car was restored a number of years ago, before I bought it and major panels are all good although the paintwork is not the best and some rust blisters are present near the front side lights. It looks fine from 6 feet and can polish up quite nice. The interior will need attention. It has some patches on seats and one on the dash. The steering wheel is not original. The hood looks to have been replaced recently and the plastic windows are intact and clear. The material itself is unmarked and the mechanism is free and working.
The previous owner told me he bought it restored after a long lay up and had recommissioned it as needed. He changed the paint colour from blue to red. His masking and prep skills were not the best and I intended to take it back to the original colour.
Mechanically it has been standing for quite a few months and I can’t get it to start, but I think the tank is empty now. It will fire on easy start but I noticed the carb piston is very sticky so maybe a rebuild will be needed. I have done a few things when I got the car, clutch slave cylinder, clutch pipe, gearbox mounts, steering rack and track rod ends. Tracking adjustment will need to be done. I also have a few spares including engine mounts which need to be done too. I bought the car as I have quite extensive experience with small Triumphs and wanted a classic convertible with good access. This one was the best I looked at and should cost very little to get up and running. How much more needs to be done is dependent on how good you want your car to be. Personally I would be happy to take it to shows and use it as it is, but would be looking to bring it back to original with better interior and original colour paint. Maybe even steel wheels with hub caps if you are not keen on the Minilite style on it now.
