Description
Genuine 1978 Laverda Jota 180 Series 1
This is a lovely, mostly original example of the very desirable first series Jota. Created by UK Importer Slater Brothers as a UK only ‘hot rod’, these first Jotas had the distinction of being the fastest production motorcycle in the world in the late 1970s, being road tested over 140mph. Each year of Series 1 had its own colour, the gold livery followed silver, and was the last of the Slater Jotas before the ubiquitous ‘mass produced’ orange Jotas took over.
The gold Jota was featured on the cover of Bike Magazine alongside PK Davies when he took his second Avon Production Championship in 1978. A photo of my motorcycle has been autographed by all the key players in achieving this; Pietro Laverda, Richard Slater & PK Davies, a unique and valuable keepsake.
This bike has been certified by Richard Slater as an original Gold Jota, first sold in the UK on the 20th July 1978. It was recommissioned in 2010 and given a £1, 400 overhaul by Moto Corsa in 2014.
It is in beautiful original condition, with superbly refreshed paintwork, with mostly unrestored frame and fastners. It has recently been given some sensible upgrades, including the fitting of brand new Motoblat battery, modern electronic ignition, braided brake hoses and new (original replica) seat cover. It is currently fitted with the stronger ‘thick web’ front wheel to resist potholed roads, and comes with its original ‘thin web’ front wheel. I have owned the bike for 6 years, it starts on the button, runs & rides beautifully. I am now reluctantly putting it on the market as I need to make some space in the garage for a pair of recently completed restorations.
Please feel free to arrange to view, ask any questions or request more detailed photos. It can be delivered anywhere in the UK.
