Selling my W460 G Wagon, I’d not planned to sell it so soon after completing the major work but unfortunately I’m having to move house and won’t have the luxury of a garage to keep it out of the elements.
I’ve owned this for the last 5 years and in that time I’ve had the body completely removed and sanded back. It is rust free with new single stage Dessert Sand paint, not a perfect paint job and would benefit from a machine polish at some point. It’s has lots of new parts as its been stripped back and re-built, I’ll list everything I can remember below. As ever with any classic its work in progress, I really wanted to replace the original canvas roof as its seen better days, it does have a new bikini top (see pictures).
Its registered Nov 1984 so in January 2025 it will be eligible for historic vehicle tax and status so no need for yearly MOT and zero road Tax. My plan was to spend time restoring it and get it back out on the road for its 40th next year.
I have a collection of service history with it, original manual and even its original First Aid box with all its contents.
It starts first time and sounds like a 300gd Diesel should, noisy, a little oily and great, it definitely won’t win any races but its very reliable. As It’s not MOT’d I’ve only driven along a local lane but goes and stops fine and power steering has surprisingly little play so already ahead of Land rovers in that department.
I’ve listed below all that’s new, most of the parts used are originals from PUCH. at Austria
New:
Clutch (full + bearing) (Sachs)
Brakes ( refurb callipers, new lines and pads )
Brake master and servo
Windscreen (and seal)
Steel wheel and Tyres
Steering damper
Seats and headrests re-covered
Seatbelts
Added fold up jump seats to rear
Heater motor (all-works)
Wiper motor (all-works)
Alternator
All belts
Shock absorbers (Sachs)
Suspension and steering bushes
Gear knobs and gaiter
Gear bushes
Oils / Fluid (Engine, Gearbox, Diffs, Power steering)
Filters (Oil, fuel, air)
Heater / Coolant stripped and flushed
Rocker cover seal (had valve adjustment done too)
All bulbs (interior Standard and exterior LED )
New side and front indicators and metal guards
New truck style wing mirrors
New front mud guards
Needs work:
Fuel gauge, works intermittently (think the sender may be sticking)(next on my list)
Canvas roof is original so will need replacing if to use in winter
I’m based close to Sheffield in the UK if you would like to view it and more than happy to answer any questions. I am open to sensible offers on the price but please be realistic, this is now quite a rare model of this vehicle for this age. If it doesn’t sell I’ll be renting a small container to store over winter to keep it dry and then registering it for historic tax/ status in Jan to sell.
