Description
1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 390GT 4 Speed manual.
Recognised by all USA clubs and fraternity as the ‘Top of the tree, rarest and most sought after 1967 Cougar’.
The XR7 designation was only introduced in the last 6 month production run in 1967.
This car was a late April built car.
It was ordered with the monster 6. 5 Litre 390 ‘S’ code engine four barrel ford factory Holley carb, the performance ‘GT’ suspension and power disc brake package which added the full chrome engine dress up package.
This car was ordered with the famous wide ratio 4 speed toploader gearbox and posi 9 inch LSD.
Other options were the very rare Tilt up and away steering column, centre console, car lite tinted windows all fully restored and functional.
The original owner in New Jersey opted from power steering and power robbing air conditioning, a good choice for such a muscle car.
There were only around 900 ‘67 cars built out of approx 150, 000 with the proven 390 big block, 4 speed manual combination and even less with the GT performance package and XR7.
Reliable estimates of around a quarter remaining in all states of repairs.
Considering there were approx 2252 1967 Shelby Mustangs built in 1967 this is indeed a very rare and in a lot of peoples views a much cooler muscle car.
This Cougar was found rotting away in a pig farm more than 15 years ago and has been subject to a concours, numbers matching, date coded restoration by myself a professional engineer.
It is correct, original Glacier blue with matching dark blue leather interior. All verified by the ‘Marti report’ and the data plates.
It has been built to hopefully replicate the way it looked when delivered to the first lucky custodian in April 1967.
Due to the rarity, the chances of finding one in this condition and specification in Europe is remote, if not impossible when there are only a few left in the USA.
This car is a reliable, go any where delight and every last detail has been covered and restored.
Even the original 8 track and electro mechanical clock works.
Vacuum headlights and sequential rear lights all perfect.
All instruments rebuilt and accurate, even the fuel gauge with low fuel warning light.
Full overhead console comprising Hand brake, Door ajar, Seat belt and low fuel lights all work faultlessly.
This is a genuine sale as at 66 years old now planning my retirement, selling other assets to hopefully enjoy my family and grandchildren.
I am friendly, honest and invite, in fact encourage any test and inspection you would wish to carry prior to purchase.
I know, like everyone else times are difficult at the moment and I have priced this fairly considering it has appraisals and agreed total loss insurance valuation of £100, 000.
I have 100’s of documented photographs and huge files of invoices.
Also included in the sale are boxes of hard to come by spares and parts.
Finally my background. I have many award winning restorations in my portfolio including cars, bikes and a world war 2 aircraft, restored , flown and winning best of show at an international annual fly in.
I always strive to achieve the impossible and my priority is the new owner of this Cougar will be as happy with it as if I were going to buy it myself.
Any inspection or questions please ask, opportunities like this I know are rare.
Kind regards
