Description

This listing is for a 1980 Series 1 Porsche 924 2. 0 Turbo.

This vehicle was a genuine “barn find”, having been taken off the road and laid up since 2008 by an enthusiast in West Sussex.

Sadly, the owner passed away and as such little is known about the vehicle’s history. There are some hints here and there that it was sourced originally from Nick Faure, Godalming who we understand to have been a prestigious name / dealership in the Porsche world.

The former owner clearly had intentions to restore this vehicle, as it has astonishingly low mileage at 25k, supported by the MOT history which continued up until May 2008. The MOT history in fact shows this vehicle has having covered just 300 miles since its earliest recorded MOT test in June 2006, suggesting it has in fact been off the road for some 18 years!

Preparation the body work seems to have commenced some time ago. The drivers door has been replaced with one salvaged from a blue 924. The entire body has been rubbed down and filled, however there are still some areas to finish. The main plus, is that there no sign of rust anywhere on the chassis, sills or underneath the body. It appears the former keepers restoration began underneath the vehicle, which is immaculate considering its age.

The vehicle is complete. Every plastic trim, door rubber etc. The vehicle has the original side windows. Chocolate leather interior, seats are in beautiful condition with mustard carpets. The dashboard sadly is very cracked, the door cards need some TLC as does the steering wheel and gearstick.

The car currently sits on a larger set of rolling Porsche 928 alloys and road legal tyres, but also comes complete with the original BBS style compomotive wheels, correct to the vehicle, although these are in need of restoration as it appears that unlike the car, they may have been stored outside. We think all centre caps are also present.

The former owner drained the system prior to parking up, and as such the tank is in great condition.

The vehicle had experienced double pump failure hence, the in tank pump has been replaced with the fuel tank sump plug from a 928 which comes complete with a strainer. The pump has been replaced with a Glencoe equivalent. The fuel pressure regulator appears to be working correctly, and all lines have been cleaned and back washed prior to the fuel filter being replaced. The hard lines to the metering head have also been cleaned, as have the feed lines to the injectors. The injectors have been ultrasonically cleaned and appear to produce good spray patterns. The fuel pump relay, a common failure point on some of these vehicles, appears to be working as it should.

So far (and this is an ongoing project), the ignition leads, coil and spark plugs have been replaced as have some of the ageing vacuum lines which showed signs of perish. There are no oil leaks. We have a new cambelt kit, water pump, thermostat and belts to go on in the coming weeks. With the engine running, the cooling system appears to circulate as it should and, having checked the condition of the coolant, it was fresh clear and blue and completely devoid of any rust or contaminants. The operation of the electric fan has not as yet been tested. There is currently no clutch. Thus far the master cylinder has been stripped and appears in good order, hence next will be the slave.

With the fuel pump primed, the vehicle starts and turns over and idles smoothly and quietly. There is no smoke, or other concerning noises. The oil is clean and uncontaminated. As to be expected, it needs a little tune up by expert hands. In addition to the vehicle, there is an extensive amount of original spare parts. This includes a some turbo specific spares, dials, gauges, warm up regulator, full set of glass, prop shaft, rear axle, radiators, wing mirrors and boxes and much more. If the offer price is right, all this will be included in the sale, and I am open to reasonable offers.

This is a very together project vehicle, ideal for a full bottom to top restoration. Our intention was to fully restore this to useable condition, however the offer of another project has presented itself which we now need to free up the funds for.

Obviously these are increasing in value and are particularly rare nowadays and this is definitely one to go for if you are after a good base on which to build something concours. Will aim to upload photographs of the spares available and some of the interior of the vehicle over the coming weeks.
